Any one shed any light on this for me ?
Changed the front discs & pads on my VW Passat Est.this weekend but…..Monday am no probs,pm on the way home after about 15mins thy start getting noisy, almost like a rumble, touch the brakes & it goes away for a while then comes back.Exactly the same this morning & tonight.
Have taken the wheel off & checked my handy work, but cant find anything untoward!
It’s defo only one side & not a wheel bearing.
        Any ideas?

I had a sim prob with my van it sounder like a grinding i took it back to vauxhall they said it was the road salt collecting around pads and discs.

did you use a brake piston wind in tool on them and not just shove the piston back in. if you did just push it back in then it stands a chance you have done some damage to the seal in the master cylinder.
i changed the pads on our t4 van recently and it was only by chance i found out about this

The front calipers are not wind backs, they simply push back. The rears are wind back,i was going to do them this w/end,don’t think im going to bother!
Don’t think it’s master cylinder as i’m sure this is only a problem on the o/s front.

Only did em on Sunday so i dont think thats the problem, plus the noise goes when i brake.
Get the feeling it’s some kind of pad grab, disc bind, but don’t know how or why.

Do the calipers move freely on the pins/mounts?

just asked a mate and he said are the pins moving freely as well as they can seize up

They appear to.Had the wheel off tried the brakes, discs spin freely until brakes applied, when released it spins freely again.

if the pin is seized slightly you will get a build up of carbon dust pretty quick as it is not releasing the pad off the disc fully, try taking the caliper back off and squirt some plusgas into the pins and work them in and out to make sure they are nice and free.

Thanks for the ideas, think i’ll try looking at the pins tomorrow.

Daft question i know but did you tighten the wheels up? Also are the pads and discs genuine (supplied by VW) and did you clean the callipers out of old brake dust and rust?

Sorry forgot to ask Decaff have you fitted the spring clips correctly?

Was hoping you would see this Chris.

Yes i have tightened the wheels up & checked em!
No they are Brembo discs,I cant think of the make of pads, but i got them from German Swedish so they should be ok?
Yes i did clean the calipers, the only thing i can think that wasn’t the norm was i took a small file to the sleeping pad as it wasn’t sliding evenly in the caliper. When i say small it was a needle file,so i didn’t shave half the pad off.

Decaff did you have to take the callipers off to change the discs?? If you did are they tight? Are the pads fitted correctly, was the noise there before you changed the brakes and do you know what side the noise is on?

Yes yes & no.The noise is defo o/s front.
Have driven into work this morning & the noise started 6mins after “take off” will go away for a short while after touching the brakes.
Have just had another look & there is now scoring on the lower part of the disc!

                                          Gonna have to investigate further!!!

Thanks Slippery, but i’ll call one of the fitters the company uses for it’s van fleet,i’m sure they will help.
