Tony my local venue is 13ft deep and I have no worries using the pellet cone on there. Make sure when you prepare your pellets they are soaked slightly less than normal to create the right texture, this way they will go through 15ft of water easily without any worries of the cone exploding before you have hit the bottom.

I have a question about “the cone” do you definatly know that the cone is actually still around the hook and bait any longer than on impact with the surface. I have fished the cone a few times in the past coaght well on it at times and at other times not at all.
The reason im saying this is because after a match at gold valley last summer i stood on the steps outside the clubhouse. There was a young lad who fishes for farnborough i believe and he was fishing the cone over to the steps and i was watching it as it landed and everytime the cone broke or the hook bait came out before it went out of sight.
I went round to tell him, so he sqeezed the pellets in more they looked to be soaked about right but still they came off on impact.
So what im actually saying is does the cone work differently than we believe, do the pellets break off and spread out in a tight group rather than a pile around the bait.
Has anybody tested this in a really clear lake and watched the cone down to the bottom~think

Steve R did and article a while back explaining that brother Phil had done some under water filming in Holland and every time a pellet cone rig was cast into the peg the pellets were all broken up by the time they came into shot. Only really squeezing them in hard seemed to get them anywhere near the bottom before breaking up.

                  Good question i would agree…

I’ve used the cone throughout the last 12 months or so and enjoyed good results. Lake I fish is about 6ft on average (although i have fished it a lot shallower) and it has out fished the cage/straight lead. I THINK(!!) that as long as the pellets are prepped as they should be they will get to the bottom.

                  It works irrespective.
