TF_MatchcarpI heard there were more carp floating up off the bottom dead than there were carp being caught – Fact or myth anybody?

TF_RhinoFished the open today. 21 on it.
Water was cold – 2.4 degrees so didnt expect many carp – I was right! Match won from skylark 7 – 19lb – 2 carp and silvers; think 14lb 2nd (mainly carp).
So few carp showing but more concerning is the relative lack of silvers – there used to be more – a chuck with maggot on the bomb or waggler used to bring bites from “nuicance” silvers. I tried this for a good chunk of the day as did Brett opposite me – we had one silver a piece!
To contradict myself a little I did put together 7lb late in the match with a 2lb tench and some skimmers and roach all on the pole – but based on the last 2 years experiences I believe that the silver fish population has significantly declined. shame, especially when you draw off the carp!

tournament_proAm sensing people are trying to start some rumour here…. M-Carp already asked this before and Adam told you there were a few dead on Dragonfly.
I know someone who went up at the weekend and spoke to Jimmy – he doesnt understand where these rumours are coming from

TF_ropaIf you need to know any facts about Woodlands give Jimmy or Craig a phone 01845526110. They are well aware of the rumour mill and will answer any questions you may have.

TF_AnthonywatersParticipantI dont want anyone taking what I say out of context If i beg the question “was it dire last weekend ?” I mean was it dire last weekend nothing more There must be some sort of rumours kicking about and I for one wish to remain detached from them Thankyou.

TF_ropaAnthony It`s not your post or comments that are took out of context.Anybody`s more than welcome to ask if a venue is fishing”crap” It`s the post about fish deaths that concerns Craig at Woodlands, as the same question was more or less asked a few weeks back,if anybody needs to know anything, isn`t it easier to go to the people who know, and find out whats going on.

adam1Participantagree with ropa here, if people want to know about them type of rumours then its best to ask some one at the fishery
as TP said the question was asked a few weeks back and i answed saying that a some fish had died on dragonfly but all the other lakes are totally uneffected. im pretty sure thats the same answer jimmy or craig would give to, rumours still seem to be going round about “all the fish being dead” no matter how many people point out the same thing( few dead on dragonfly and thats it!!).
to answer the origional question. it is fishing hard ( where isnt? ) with odd carp being caught (mostly big ones 89 lb won last week made up of 11 fish) and not many silvers being caught. i think you have to remember the temperature over the last few weeks has been any were between -10 and +10 degrees. im sure with a bit more steady weather things will improve greatly

tournament_proadam1 – Correct, if you want to know the facts ring the place up, sick of people starting rumours. Soon at it warms up it will be 100lb city as usual
Its been worst winter for about 30 years.
Adam1 – can I just add, a friend of mine went to a well known commercial fishery and heard someone saying ‘adam richards has personally told me they broke the ice at woodlands and stacks of carp floated to the top’
Been fishing woodhouse winter league, usually on dog kennel you can get loads of roach, last winter I never had less than 5kg of bits, loads if bites. Last week there was 1 roach caught on that pond and that was people scratting with pinkies and squatts

TF_MatchcarpI wont ask the question again, I asked a second time because a well known angler (who’s name I am not prepared to quote) said that when he was up there recently on a match there were dead carp popping up on Skylark.
I have been fishing Wodlands for a long time, long before some of you lads had even left school so please don’t think I am trying to give the fishery any bad publicity. I have had some very good days up there over the years and hope there are more to come….
The last thing we want is to lose a match fishery, we barely have any as it is …..Let the weather warm up and let the results speak for themselves, I hope Andy is right and it is ton up city as usual…..
I was asking the question in the hope of good news not bad, some reassurance that the fishery has come through the cold snap unscathed, as yet we don’t know, fingers crossed spring will bring the results we are ALL HOPING FOR ……. See you up there in April I hope….

adam1ParticipantTP
who was it saying this? i went for a walk round the lakes when the dead fish came up on dragonfly and didnt mention that a few fish were dead on dragonfly oviously some wer along the line some ones decided to change the story and i guess thats how rumours start.
my dad helped jimmy to brake the ice on both partridge and skylark (they had jimmy in a boat with some rope on each end pulling it from one end of the lake to the other) none of them seen any dead fish at all on them lakes

tournament_proMatch-carp. Am not quite as young as current crop at woodlands, I used to fish woodlands years before M,S+Dfly were even thought of with a 10m Browning winner, those were the days!!!
I guess the only trouble is, dead fish generally sink so who knows what damage could have been done. Time will tell when the sun comes out eventually and 8mm pellets flying about all over and rods getting dragged in.
Adam – I dont know who it was but there is a rumour going round and unfortunately your name is attached to it.
Its chinese whispers at its best. Guy next to me at woodhouse was telling me he’d heard woodlands thirsk had lost 5 tonne of fish

adam1Participantit amazes me how people can here one thing and then tell it to some one else completely different, rumours get out of hand very quickly. how many days this summer will it fish hard and every ones excuse were ” all the fish died in winter” all the other times its been hard through summer will have been totally forgotten.
werever that particular rumour came from im sure most people will know its not true.
also, could you txt me please i ve lost your number.

tournament_proI would, but av lost yours as adam was first number on my phone and deleted it when I was drunk lol.
al PM it
It was the same at hosticks a few years back, when 200lb was winning the moat, noone said anything, when it fished poor as all venues do from time to time, it was the excuse of hes netted all the fish out, all this did was lower the match attendances
