TF_piperpilotThe Pro/Airity/Pro X are superb top quality poles and are like money in the bank. Sadly the others although excellent pieces of kit will devalue like falling masonry,

TF_craigmI almost bought an Elite 77 as it is a very nice pole, light and rigid but was told by a Maver backed angler that the sections were very brittle and that the new 501 was a far better pole and the sections were much tougher. I did have a go with the 77 and also didn’t really like how they bend so much when playing fish and potting in so i opted for a Browning Z9 as it was just as rigid, light, well balanced, responsive and ships brilliantly yet quite a bit cheaper. I’ve had the G10 which i found a bit too heavy and stiff. An Airity which i loved but was fed up of it coming apart, A 481 which i just didn’t like, An Aspire pro which had very expensive spares and quite brittle/soft sections. The new Shimano Fireblood is supposed to be very good with plenty of spares and very light and rigid.

TF_stu.sAnd how do you rate the z9 against the others craig, overall?

TF_craigmI’m really impressed with it, its just as stiff as the G10 upto 14.5m but lighter, very responsive, well balanced and the finish is the best i’ve used. The 8 multi-purpose power match kits are very light yet strong and do not affect the balance at all.It comes with 2 x dolly butts that fit 11.5/13m and 14.5/16m sections. My only gripe is there are no spare no4’s in the package and they are quite expensive at £130 each but i bought the no4’s from the Z7 for £55 as these fit and feel quite a bit stronger so i will use mine for heavier carping. In my opinion the Z9 is better than the Airity which fell apart all the time and had a terrible finish for shipping.

PaTicleHi all,
I took a chance and picked up a used Elite77 from a sponsored angler. It’s the best thing I ever did, it’s given me confidence in my (limited) ability and I’ve put it to good use.
I’m top of the club league and have progressed through to the Match Fishing/Garbolino competition. This time, I was there in 2007, this pole has given me the confidence to go out and get into the final. I shall fish positively knowing I’ll land most of what I hook as it won’t be the pole won’t that let me down.
Mt previous pole was a G796 that was flimsy in comparisson. It did not instill the confidence I need to go out and attack a venue, the Elite 77 does.
OK I will not use it for venues such as Alders Farm, I have a power pole for there and similar bigger fish venues, but I know it will perform when I want it too, and that’s all that matters to me. -

TF_GillboI have just bought an Elite 77. I could of had any pole but based on the type of fishing I do this is the one whoch stood out for me. In my opinion the Daiwas and Garbolinos are great poles but the Maver is a better allrounder. The Maver 501 is stronger then the Elite 77 but not by much and felt considerably heavier and was not as stiff. The Preston GIS one is a very nice tool also.
