        PACKINGTON SOMERS FISHERY

MOLANDS Another week severely disrupted by the weather with ice, snow, rain and the occasional sunny periods making for a very quiet week on Molands. The few anglers that fished the pool found it hard with clear water pushing the fish past the pole line. Waggler with bread punch, maggot or caster are accounting for a few F1’s and skimmers.

GEARYS With anglers heading for the smaller more sheltered pools, Gearys has only seen a few anglers this week but decent skimmers to 2½lb have provided the action on long pole and pellet or waggler and maggot. Best pegs have been 10 – 15 on the high bank and 36 on the far side.

LITTLE GEARYS The most popular pool this week with F1’s, skimmers and roach showing all around the pool. Catches have not been huge with 20lb in matches a very good weight but the fishing has been fair. The 24 anglers fishing the Supercup event on Saturday had to break the ice but every competitor caught fish to prove the consistency of the sport on offer. The best area has been from 9 – 15 and 26 – 28, with pole fished pellet, caster or red maggot the best tactics.

GRATUITIES The best pool last week with carp and tench showing well to a variety of tactics. Fishery regular Jim Green of Birmingham fished peg 1 with a waggler and red maggot and caught over 30 carp to 3lb, tench to 4lb and a bream of 4lb. The waggler has been the best tactic with either red maggot or bread punch fished a couple of metres short of the island. Best pegs 1, 9, 11, 13 and 16.

CRESCENT This small pool has been in fine form even after breaking the ice, long pole with pellet or caster has seen good nets of carp, tench, roach and skimmers.

WILLOW Another pool that is fishing very well despite the weather. Carp to 7lb, F1’s, roach and skimmers providing the action with pole fished caster or 4mm expander pellet are working best.
