It’s been fishing ok…I fished Gold on Saturday and had a brilliant day with a proper mixed bag of quality fish f1’s to 3.5lb, skimmers to 2lb, a 5lb common, rudd & roach to 1lb, chub to 4lb and the odd small perch.
With regards to the matches, 28lb won it on Covey on Saturday with a few decent back up weights but then a few had packed up early and others were really struggling……it’s a lottery on there at the moment. Still the same tactics, 4ft deep on the inside and far shelf or down the track seem to be the winning methods.
Spey has been quite consistent – by this I mean decent winning weights with better average back up weights…there are pegs that are struggling but it’s still winter and to be expected really.
There was a match on Pine on Wednesday which was won with 30 odd lb with a few late twenety back up weights but again, it is also hit and miss. The lads pleasuring it on saturday were baggin on the disabled pegs…all stocky Carp with the odd big F1 thrown in.
It’s starting to pick up now but because of how much of a lottery Covey is at the moment, i’ve left the matches for the time being…the last match I did fish was the Thursday open on Spey which I won off peg 13 with 32lb the bonus peg was 14….was a bit gutted with the “near miss” but obviously glad to have won it. Unless they can guarantee the match will not be on Covey, i probably wouldn’t turn up at the moment.
