TF_baitchefParticipantDoes it make a difference what size pellets you use and has anybody tried soaked 6mm or 8mm on a flatbed?

MrFoxman4mm is the max you should you use on a method. Any bigger like 6 and 8mm and the pellets won’t bind together well at all and will just fall off on the cast most of the time.
That goes for any type of feeder really i guess.

TF_baitchefParticipantWhat if you compress them quite hard?

MrFoxmanAgain they just don’t stick together well at all. I would much rather use the pellet that i use now, micros with 4mm’s on the method.
You would have to leave the pellets in water for a good few hours i reckon for them to go completely soft too as they are big and hard (nobody take that the wrong way lol)
I’ve tried using 6mm expander round a method and didn’t have much luck with them sticking. I can only imagine 8mm pellet would be worse.

TF_baitchefParticipantI get what your saying now, I suppose you would just end up with a sort of lumpy paste. Is it possible to sneak in a small percentage of bigger pellets in with the micros. If so do you recon it would be Say 90% micro and 10% 6mm do you recon? Or is it possible to add more 6mm? Sorry for the questions its just that I have got it in my head that bigger pellets will be more effective for some reason. Probably not yet, but for when it warms up a bit.

Nick DTry the teabag if you want to use bigger pellets.

MrFoxmanThat’s what i did with the 6mm expanders in the end, made them into a paste ~clap
Adding a few 6mm pellet should work fine but just don’t over do it. The percentages you just said would be spot on imo.
I find a mix of roughly 75% micro’s and 25% 4mm’s work very well when they are sprinkled with groundbait. I now use atomic cloud on them instead of my favoured groundbait mojo by bait-tech.

TF_baitchefParticipantWhat are the additives for, to help binding? Because I need to stay away from groundbait as it can end up attracting too many silvers. There is a good head of decent carp where I fish and I want to go down a more selective route.

MrFoxmanIt’s just something different to what most people use. Using groundbait gives the pellet a different colour to the normal white/light brown when soaked. Atomic cloud is a fish magnet.
Adding the groundbait leaves a cloud in the water as well just like atomic cloud so potentially attracts more fish, that’s the idea anyway. And yes the groundbait does help to bind the pellets together.
As you said groundbait attracts silvers but this time of year that’s exactly what you want to do. As carp can be a bit wary of feeding confidently in the colder weather when they see silvers feeding they know it’s safe. Known fact.
That’s why when you are fishing for silvers on the pole for example after a while you usually get a lump move in because it has noticed the silvers feeding confidently so it believes it will be safe to feed too.

TF_baitchefParticipantO.K Cheers, you have given me some things to think about. Thanks.

TF_BAG UPParticipantEven using pellets on the method feeder still won’t avoid the silver fish, you may have to look into using a bigger or harder bait so the silver won’t take it ~think

Anonymousas written getting big pellet round a method don’t work…tried it,but it does work in a grip mesh feeder like the drennan ones, another thing is you can do with a feeder is plug/sandwhich the pellet with bit of g/bait to stop the pellet coming out on the cast..and either a 8/10 mm pellet or boilie for hook bait.
