TF_nitroMy pole has a broken number 5, is it safe to use it telescoped through with some tape around it, until i get a replacement? Does this increase the likelihood of another break?

TF_AnthonywatersParticipantI tubed a no5 for my conny and used it for 2 years, I sanded each end flat before I tubed it and glued the telescope together Its fine.

Daddy BParticipantAgreed, have done this a couple of times with no problems at all when waiting for replacement sections to arrive

MrFoxmanDo you just need to put tape round the two sections that are going to be telescoped then? How much would need to be put on?

TF_craigmI agree with others, I have sanded the ends of both sections then when telescoping them i squeeze a bit of araldite into them, i then put one of the Maver shrink things over it and have used it for years.

TF_andynorth2003ParticipantI would clean off the broken ends, so they have no carbon splinters and telescope.
Pull through as much as you feel safe without breaking, without glueing, so that if you want to have it repaired at a later date you can undo the sections. The tape really is not for strength, but more just to stop you getting any carbon splinters where the joint is. Two or three wraps of black insulation electrical tape is fine. (replace if it comes off)
Simples !!

MrFoxmanIf the sections aren’t broken at all will they be strong enough with nothing added to them, just simply telescoped?

TF_andynorth2003ParticipantIf the sections arent broken, why would you need to telescope?
Just use them as normal?Am I missing something?

MrFoxmanSorry i didn’t explain that bit. It’s not my pole but basically the no.5 got broken and this person has got a different number 5 but doesn’t fit normally, i was just wondering if it is strong enough to be telescoped with the no.6.

TF_andynorth2003ParticipantBit iffy that really, plus you risk breaking the No. 6
Get the broken section posted off to Esselle and they will have it back pronto.
I have done it myself during a match when a 7 section broke, but I did not fancy it much.
I suppose it depends on how ‘well’ the section telescopes, as this will vary by every pole out there.
Either way, not ideal.

TF_toplightsBeen using my Diawa whisker for carping for a couple of years now with the third and forth joints broken and telescoped,i have never bothered to replace the sections as i recon its a much stronger pole now, than when it was new and unbroken.
