Top of the water sport can’t get any better than Elinor at the moment! Everyday there are fish surface feeding. In a light wind the fish are all over the lake but if its a chilly breeze then look for the sheltered areas. Buzzers, pond olives and a few hawthorn are on the menu.
The really big catches are coming to boat anglers fishing a team of straight line buzzers. Bank anglers are finding the fishing more challenging. Plenty of trout to cast at but they are fussy. Keep changing your fly!
The evening rise at Elinor is almost guaranteed during May and June. Its a great time to practise your dry fly technique with fish moving to within a couple of yards of the shore as well as out in the wind lanes taking adult and hatching buzzers.

A great week at Elinor for anglers fishing imitative patterns. Plenty of fish rising as the wind has been lighter. These fish are still difficult to tempt. Mathew Tuck from Huntingdon managed to catch 8 fish on a small grey emerger. Boat anglers are taking some big bags by ignoring the surface feeders and fishing a floating or midge tip line with a 15ft leader, black buzzer on point, olive buzzer in middle and diawl bach or hares ear on top dropper. Catches of 20 + fish per boat were taken every day last week. Straight line rather than using indicators is the best method.
The evening rise is in full swing now. Fish are moving to within a few feet of the bank.
Please book boats in advance. Demand is usually high in May.
