I have bought some preston Reflo Braidcast sinking Braid and find it very difficult to sink it quickly, even my sinking my tip and striking upwards although that helps it does sink eventually but in windy conditions etc that too late.Any tips how to make it sink quickly ?

The best braid I have used and it is very hard to get, JVS Premium, Cloughbally mill used to sell it, only place I can get it now in on German ebay.

Takes a few sessions for it to really start sinking very well.

soak it in a cup with washing up liquid and water once you put it on your spool leave it in there for a couple of days it will help loads with making it sink. Just chuck out and keep your tip under the water till you feel the feeder hit bottom then tighten down with it under the water you will feel any bites you get through the rod while you are doing this if you are fortunate to get one instantly. This should help you a bit.

                Thanks Enda

Just bought 4 spools, its great braid, cost either £20 or £25 sterling in Cloughballymill if mempory serves me right.

JVS make excellent plastic hook boxes but again they aint cheap.

Sinking braids only sink when they have absorbed water (also removes any air bubbles trapped in the fibres). Easiest way of doing it is to place it in a bait box of water at least 15 minutes before you actually use it.
Sinking braids are also round profile rather than the normal flat profile of a neutral or floating braid.
Using washing up liquid is only really any benefit when using a nylon or co-polymer line as all it does is to degrease it so it goes through the surface tension easier. Using it on braid will just soak up washing up liquid into the fibres, that are held in the fibres and released when used again. Unless you like using “detergent” as a bait additive, I wouldn’t put washing up liquid any where near any braid.

those of you who have bought the braid from Germany let me know what they charged for pand p.. I bought four spools last night and paid immediately for postage to Ireland, they charged me €6 so it cost me €69 for 4 spools.

Got an email this morning auf Deutsch ( in German) stating that postage would cost €20. I havnt spoken German in 20 years except when pissed and wonder if it will be sent??

No you are ot the only one. I filled 2 TDR spools 2 years ago and gave up on it very quickly because it doesn’t sink and is a nightmare with a crosswind. I use the new thin Direct Mono which is spot n.

So moving on I guess I shall be cutting this braid up but what Braid is best or are there some good low/non stretch monos available ?

You don’t really want a braid to sink, you want it to ‘hang’ in the water. A sinking braid is a big no-no, especially when fishing long. The best ‘braid’ is Berkley Fireline. The best way to make braid break the surface film is to use it.
