fished a match on sat , and a angler on the opposite bank to me was catching a few fish . then suddenly he started shouting and balling cursing and swearing , slamming his feeder rod down on the bank , threw his hat off and just sat there with his head in his hands for 5 min . then he picked up his top of the range pole , only to find that he had broken a section in half when he threw his rod down !! . is it really worth gettin so upset when you loose a fish ? i think not , ~naughty

I once pulled out of a chub at the net in a match on the river Trent that cost me our club championship. All I needed to do to win the league was not blank and this was the only bite I had all day. The air briefly turned blue and I was pretty gutted, but you get over it eventually (or at least I hope you do – it still bothers me to this day!)

I’ve seen many a rod go up the bank, quite funny to watch aswell. Not done it myself might have a little moan but i’m not one for throwing my gear around.

i could maybe understand it if it was towards the end of the match and he was close to winning ,but it was about 2 hours in ,and he was getting battered off the next peg anyway lol i did laugh a bit .

Throwing your gear around is a little bit OTT if you ask me – I’m not sure what you stand to gain from that! You just have to clear your head and try and bag another one. There is nothing worse than one lost fish leading to another because of frustration and bad angling.

its a days fishing in my book if you win money then thats a bonus better than work anyday of the week , like those that draw a bad beg and dont even fish ! dont get me wrong i fish to win too , but at the end of the day your on the bank not in the house or at work .

People that do that clearly have no respect for their gear and i agree also OTT. If i lose a decent fish i do not throw my gear about it, a few words may pop out and then get ready to catch another, hoping it’s a bigger lump that goes in the net!

Christ, if I did that every time I lost a fish i’d no gear left

I witnessed an angler thrash his landing net to pieces on a mooring post on the R Yare, ended up with splinters of fibre glass and carbon in his hands – Oh doesn’t it make you laugh!!
