JLA14978Hello chaps,
I’ve been fishing for F1s for the first time recently on a shallow venue full of snags and features. As you can imagine, I was not prepared for the job and ended up with a load of smashed floats and tangled rigs. What floats should I be using to avoid getting them smashed to bits? I need something around 4×8 or 4×10 which is as strong as hell while retaining sensitivity for fickle biting F1s. HELP!!!!!!!!!! -

con2302ParticipantI use Drennan Tuff eye but I don’t think they do them in 4×8

TF_nick_the_2ndI sell lots of these where guys are fishing for F1s on shallow snaggy venues tight to cover. They are very tough! 1.5mm tips would be your best bet.

I’ve not tried them yet but my local shop, The Tackle Barn in Plymouth has them in stock and they look pretty good.

JLA14978Keep the suggestions coming!! As I said, it’s the first time I’ve fished properly for F1s and I’ve never seen such fickle biting fish, they make crucians look like they’re hanging themselves! I’m going to buy some of everything you suggest as I freely admit I have no idea when it comes to F1 fishing.
Also, I’ve heard that they like coming shallow. How would you fish for such delicate biters up in the water? -

TF_bully100ParticipantHave a look at the carpa bully not as strong as the hand made floats but is somewhere inbetween strenth and finese.

TF_MICK THE BOOKIEJLA…….If its allowed just use the “Floating Pole” my old mate.Try 3ft deep first off,and go shallower if needs must.Keep feeding 4ms over the the top and wait for the elastic to stretch….No missed bites…No tangles…No smashed rigs…And plenty of the buggers in the net….easy peasy…lol.

TF_nick_the_2ndHandmade floats have plenty of finesse if you buy the right patterns. They are just put together properly with good quality materials so they don’t fall apart!
I do a lot of F1 fishing from this time of the year on, asuming the bait is pellet, for up to 18in deep go for a dibber

Any deeper I use this float pattern

TF_ubatJust to agree with what has been said, hand made floats are what you should be looking at, Hillbillys are quality.

I don’t think having a strong float means that you can’t detect shy bites, all the popular hand-made float makers should have a sensitive pattern that is strong, the strength is in the way they are made and not how big or thick the tips are.
I would forget the factory made floats and try out some hand made ones, you won’t look back!
