Can anyone advise a good way of popping the meat off deck when fishing it on the lead. I have tried rig foam and it does not look right to me somehow.

John, why do you want to pop meat up?

Steve, on some of the deep lakes with bigger fish up here I am advised that this technique is deadly at times. I think its just about that time now when the fish are not shallow for the wag to work but they are not nailed on the deck
either. It might be caused by the way the water warms up and warm layers exist I dont know. I do know from my experience that lots of carp are caught off deck even in winter.
I read an article some time ago from a Hayfield regular John Howard who used it on the bomb, I think he scalded punched meat then froze it, after thawing the meat floats.
I guess its like any other method on hard fished commies, its just something the fish dont see too often that can score.

Why dont you use a pop up boilie or even a trimmed down piece of pop up boilie and a cube of meat? That way you could get a rreally slow fall of the hookbait if you wanted to.

why not punch a hole thro’ your piece of meat and insert a foam plug to make the meat float

Alternatively, take a piece of foam cut to the same shape as your meat (roughly) then dip it into a flavour such as Predator Plus and hair rig it above your meat so that it pops up under your meat.
                good luck.
