Ackoo beanie mk2’s. They have a wire stem (peg)not glass but that’s what you want for UITW.

A wire or heavy glass stem dibber or pea type float is not always the best choice for fishing shallow.

A thiner glass stemmed dibber with shot directly under the base is often a better option and will be more stable in the wind.

Preston Blacks are the only thing near I can think of, if you want a dibber style float?

Sorry John, the DILs are due to be ready late May. They have proved to be more popular than we anticipated- hence the delay.

Looks like Alan Scothorne has the same opinion on glass stemmed dibbers as me! I would be interested in the dimentions of the floats he was using?

Did he give a reason for his opinion on the floats? Ive used the wire stemmed Preston inline dibbers in the past and didn’t like them at all.

I think the Preston dibbers are more suited to fishing light baits like caster but found they don’t sit well in the water. Maybe it was because I was fishing pellet with quite strong line.

Nick Gilbert has been making my dibbers for a couple of years now and has perfected the design. No need for an in-line float, just use float rubbers.

In fact, I use 2 Gardner 3.2mm pellet bands at the base of the tip and normal silicon rubbers on the stem. The pellet bands are very soft but I use 2 in case one breaks (which it never has).

You can even fish paste on the larger ones.

John, the old Preston ones (PB1’s) were replaced buy the pinks and blacks- same float with either a carbon/black glass stem or a wire stem.

Depends how the fish are having it and personal preference, you would not see a lot of your bites on a dibber in the frozen north.~think

it’s not really stability your looking for when UITW, as they mostly take it on the way down, what’s important is that it sits up right away and acts like a pellet when you slap it in the water

The sort of dibber I recommend is up and fishing straight away. Just to make it clear I am talking about fishing 18in deep or less. Any deeper and I would use a float with a bristle.

It will be fishing quicker than any other type of float including wire stem. Thick glass stems are the slowest to cock also to make the float sit straight in the water the stem need to be overly long or you will still need to put shot at the base, then wire is quicker but will get blown about more by a cross wind, the fastest are float with a thinner stem and shot at the base, these float can be made shorter too. It will make more of a “plop” on the water when slapping it down if you are fishing that way. Sit better in a cross wind and get effected less by drift, that is where the better stability comes in.
