          Hello Gaz

Fished 4 opens on the Covey Lakes in recent weeks. Most pegs are on average 11-13 metres wide. Depth wise around 2ft close in to the bank on both sides. Deepest water around 5 metres which then starts to shelve up towards the far bank, so the deepest water is closest to you around 6 ft I would say. Plumbing up around the peg you will notice that the shelves are quite steep, so you have to be careful placing your rig etc. However fishing up a slope can be a good tactic, especially with a heavy bait such as sweetcorn, as the bait will pull the float under if it is not resting on the bottom. I have not fished any of the older match lakes recently, but I think the canal type lakes are dug in a similar way. Hopefully more replies to your post will help.
There have been some good weights lately and the fish are more spread out, but there are still some poor pegs as I found out on Sunday. Ha.

Hope this helps a bit, Tight lines.

Mostly F1’s from about 8oz-1lb. There are some Commoms and Mirrors which are slightly bigger up to 2lb. Also quite a few Ide from 4-8oz which can keep you occupied if the carp go a bit quiet. Just to give you a rough idea I have weighed in 30 fish for 22lb and 53 fish for 43lb in recent matches. Personally I have caught the F1’S and carp on pellet or corn either close in or across and the Ide and a few F1’s on maggot fishing about a section short of the far bank. Not had much success fishing in the deep water, but did have the cruel pleasure of watching Neil Machin catch a few F1’s on small pieces of paste at 5 metres on the next peg on Sunday. He ended up with 33lb I chucked my 10lbish back. Enough said.

If you are fishing the FishOmania qualifier the match also includes the Holbar lakes which have carp up to double figures in.
