TF_Jon W1/4 inch (6mm) is best IMO. Like you suggest, approach the session like you would when fishing pellet shallow and you wont go far wrong.

Skimmers and F1’s. If soft pellet is being attacked by silvers i will switch to either a harder pellet or a small piece of meat which is almost small fish proof.

TF_Leaky Lloydi preffer 4 mm myself then fish with a 6 mm punch of meat!!!
best tip i was given, is to cut your meat the morning of the match and give it a good rinse on hot water to get rid of all the excess fat then airtight bag it till you get to the venue!!!
just makes your fishing a little more comfortable as it cuts down on the grease and helps to prolong your lacky on yer pult!!!! -

TF_GavinUsed to use 4mm meat a lot when I fished venues that had a stock of fish that were generally under or averaging 2lb.
As for meat paste, I used that a fair bit a few years ago when Andy Findlay appeared in (what was then) Advanced Pole mag. Fed a mixture of 4mm and grated meatd meat, mixed with fishmeal crumb (used Crazy Bait gold at the time, I see no reason why any other fishmeal G/B wouldn’t work) and used paste that was grated meat (use a mag riddle as a cheese grater for the meat) and crumb. See no reason why it wouldn’t work now! Have to admit, I won a few quid fishing punched meat over the same riddled/ 4mm/ crumb mix too!

TF_GALPSI use 4mm meat as feed with a little hemp ( if allowed ) with a 6mm piece of meat over the top.
IMO meat seems to sort out the better stamp of fish and doesnt seem to get pestered by the smaller fish.

rollingMakes sense to have a bit of meat paste, useing pices of meat.Useing hemp if allowed.Icant understand why hemp should be band.Just look what happens when roach swith on.personally i think casters brilliant for roach, simply because they have it more readily than hemp.
But get them going on hemp and tares It cant be beaten. -

TF_NW Cut AnglerPolony is a good hookbait alternative. Double meat. Garlic flavoured meat and IIRC at Woodland View meat dyed red and/or flavoured with predator plus.

AnonymousRolling,
Any old medium strength curry powder (in moderation)from your local corner shop or supermarket makes a great favouring and colouring for meat.

rollingWhat is the best cat meat, and is it worth flavouring and colouring. Is there some ingredient in cat meat, that you could put on pellets that makes it so delectible to carp.Like Tryptophan for example…
