Coming up on Saturday – can anyone kindly offer any tips (in addition to drawing the best peg!)

Btw I had a walk around recently and was impressed by the space on offer and the maintenance and cleanliness of the site – some of my local venues please take note!

Impressed by the space, hmm interesting. Some of the pegs are a bit tight on the Covey Lakes. Only joking.
There is a list of selected pegs for the Fisho mania match in the cabin next to the sandwich shop. Most pegs will have a spare, but some are every peg. I have fished some matches on the Covey,s lately catching on pellet corn and maggot, and managed a copule of section wins. As with fishing you can only catch whats in front of you and some areas are better than others.
General opinion seems to be that one of the Holbar lakes will win it as there are bigger fish stocked, carp into doulbe figures. Might need a method feeder rod and pellet waggler rod in the bag in case you draw on either Holbar 1 or 2. Otherwise the Covey lakes are predominately pole venues between 11-14 metres wide. However if the big fish don’t show then any lake might be able to win it. Could be a case of right person on right peg.

Hopefully it will be an enjoyable day, but the forecast says rain. DOH.

Going off the pegging in the cabin anglers in Fisho Q will have a lot more space than we have had in the opens which can only be a good thing !
Some very very good local anglers will be hard to beat if they draw half decent areas imo, any peg with the wind blowing into it will have a lot of fish, everyone seems to want to draw Holbars 1&2 , trouble is it has very little form so no one knows for sure if it will produce ? If Holbars bombs, any peg on coveys with the wind blowing into it, willow, pine, marsh and spey are all capable of 70 – 80 lb to any angler thats gets it right on the day ~clap ~clap

Ps the butties are well good an all lol

willow could throw up a good weight if the chub show between the islands!
Covey all depends on the wind as dodge says.

spey also could come good with some room plenty of big f1’s and some reasonable commons and mirrors .is ribbon in as that would be a shit draw

                tricky

Ribbon not in!!! As said previous Holbars are a bit of an unknown quantity and if they don’t produce IMO with the right angler on pegs 2 or 20 on Pine will not be far off, with preference to peg 20 as it is out of the way.

I dont think Holbar 1 has enough big fish to win. So, with 600 carp between 7lb-15lb. Plus some smaller carp, F1s and other fish in Holbar 2. Thats the place to draw in my opinion. I,ve fished Holbar 2 a few times and would target the lake with paste and 6ml pellets. The method or pellet waggler would only be a back up methods if the carp are not on the pole lines. The buz bar kids catch a few. So, 15 quality match anglers will find more than a few big fish to put a weight together. I would not be surprised if 200lb+ wins that lake with several very big back up weights. Its likely that less than 80lb will be the best weight from all the other pool unless the chub or bigger F1s turn up in a quiet corner of a pool and then decide to feed. They have not turned up anywhere yet and the venue has been solid with angler for the last few months. So, a big weight from anywhere but Holbar 2 would be a big shock to me.

I’ve fished every lake over the last 6 weeks and if all fish “average” Covey won’t win and Pine willow or Holbar will. Covey would have to fish its head off and the others be below average for it to win.

I’ve said form the start that Willow would win but having now fished it recently and with over 130 people drawing right next to the lake…i’m not so sure. Pine is out of the way and that’s why i think it’s in with a good shout.

I’m hoping for either Hobar or the end pegs on Pine as Richard(tricky) has said.

My overall prediction…125lb from Holbar to win!!

There was a match on holbar 1 on tuesday which was won with 123-6! If it’s overcast the bigger carp should feed so am hoping to draw either of the holbars tbh. Either way wouldn’t be a massive shock of few other surprise weights as the pegging seems to be quite good-giving lots of room?

                          i’ll go for 90 – 100 lb from peg 20 on pine.

No idea what happened to Holbar 2. Guess thats match fishing!

Willow peg 20 won with 126lb, next 4 weights were off Covey 3, couple of 70lb’s and a couple of 60lb’s.

Holbars, won with 30lb, spey and marsh just 20lb+. I think there was a 50lb of pine but not from the favoured peg (20)

126lb, and all CHUB!!!! well done.
They said that pool (outside the clubhouse) would win with chub at the draw. It was cold and rained all day, and the fish i caught were all down the track.
24lb from covey 4, peg 94, and lost section by 8oz!

                                    Nice place.
