TF_baitchefParticipantI’m using skrettings micro coarse pellets and no matter what I do they keep breaking off the method feeder when it hits the water. Any ideas?

TF_fish_silverChris;
Have you tried adding in a little drop of NORTHERN GRAVEY to your micros

TF_wildingukCouldadd some horlicks, pv1, bit of groundbait, or use a liquid additive like IM5 liquid to make them a bit stickier

TF_rowdythere are three grades of skrettings pellets,so i am informed, the cheapest has sunflower oil instead of fish oil and tends not to stick together very well,in the feeder or on the method.the middle grade is best for our use the top grade is too expensive.

TF_baitchefParticipantI made a mistake and am using a small preston method feeder. I am soaking the micros briefly and letting them absorb the residual (that’s means left over for you you northerners) water. After half an hour they are nice and fluffy, but I know for a fact they are coming of the feeder on impact with the water. How do you prepare them with the ground expander’s?

TF_Dave Pelletexactly the problem I found with skrett micro’s
I’ve been adding a touch of dry groundbait to mine, as the micro’s are already wet this is enough to hold them togetheror you could switch to swimstim micro’s, never used to have the problem with them

Swimstim micros are the same as skrettings.
Baitchef are you using the method mould? The pellets will be more evenly compressed around the feeder, try squeezing the pellets quite hard aswell it doesn’t matter how hard you squeeze it will break down when they start to attack the method feeder anyway. If that doesn’t work then you could try a handful of groundbait.

AnonymousIt sounds like youre over wetting your pellets m8.
Put them in a pint bait tub and just enough water to cover them, and i mean just enough ,to much theyre fooked lol. Put lid on and put em in fridge overnight then they will be perfect. I use the tubs that come with an indian meal. Sorted. They will stick like me to my money lol. -

TF_Waveney OneBaitchef, I don’t know whether there are 3 different grades of sinking coarse fish pellets or not, but I wouldn’t think so.
I have been using them for years with no problems at all. There was a batch prepared in August last year that for some reason didn’t bind properly. I emailed them via the link on their website, quoting batch number etc and despite sending 2 reminders they never bothered to reply. I am still using the duff batch that will not make a paste very easily either. When you squeeze them hard and release, they just spring back into shape!
The way I prepare them now for the method is as ninefingers says. They won’t stick though if you have the same batch as me. They used to but not the batch from August 2009. What I do then is to sprinkle them with either plain fish meal or a fishmeal/pellet ground bait. You need very little to get them to stick enough for the cast and to reach the bottom.

TF_the margin gnomeWhats wrong with them falling off to an extent? Unlikely they all fall off id presume. Squeeze them on a bit harder!
Skretting make feed for trout and salmon. The coarse feed pellet is merely an offshoot. Feed pellet does change in consistancy. It is made to a least cost formulae. Fish dont have any requirement for a particular ingredient, only for the nutrients those ingredients provide. Therefore the ingredients do change according to price of those ingredients.

MrFoxmanI cover my method mix of micro’s and 4mm skrettings with Atomic Cloud and the pellets stay on better, also using a preston method feeder. I squeeze the feeder into the mould as tightly as possible too so that they stay on a bit more.

TF_baitchefParticipantI think i might need a larger feeder because if i squeeze the pellets too hard the hookbait gets trapped in between the ribs of the feeder.

TF_Waveney OneJust put your bait into the mould then the pellets and G/B on the top and press as hard as you want. I will be moving up to a larger feeder this weekend after using the smaller one for months.

TF_baitchefParticipantThe thing is i like to use 8mm pellets on the hair as they pick out decent fish, but the small feeders are too small if you know what I mean, because i cant compress the pellets hard enough without trapping the hookbait.

TF_MarkTI had the same trouble with the garbolino ones, like Weaveney One put the pellet first then the pellets on top. Always make sure the pellet always finish’s on the outside and not at the back copmressed against the method feeder.
