Last week of July I am making my first trip to W/A’S for five days. Having never been before I am unsure of which methods will produce for me best, however I do know the obvious commercial tactics will score.
I will be taking the wife and child with me so, with tackle and luggage space is limited.
My question is which baits should I take and in what quantities. I was planning on taking my own pellets and was thinking along the following lines with regard to a bait list.
20 tins of corn.
20 tins of meat.
Half sack of 6mm pellets.
A few bags of 8mm pellets.Am I thinking along the right lines? What would you take and in what kind of quantities?
Thanks.

TF_poleanglerI would buy the corn down there at Morrisons or Lidl you don’t need that much.
Pellet wise 2-3 pints a day would be more than enough you can always buy them there if running short. Depends how many days you are going to fish and where. -

I plan on fishing an evening and four days! How much corn should I get? How many pellets and what size would be best?
Which waters do you suggest I fish?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

TF_Craftytaftydepends how you like to fish or whether you are fishing the residents matches.
If you want to catch on the method/ wag go on twin oaks and take a 3pint tub of micros and a bag of 8mil pellets.
if you want some lumps down the edge in the evening, go on Eerie or Trelawney and fish corn. If you want to catch a mixed bag go on Jennies with pellets.
You don’t want rafts of bait anywhere. When you fish the matches it’s rare that you don’t bring a lot of you’re bait back with you.

TF_poleanglerI would fish Jennys in the evening you can catch some lumps down the edge there too.
I would have a day on Python in the teens should be good for a days fishing either pole shallow or feeder to stick ups plenty of F1’s and carp.
Like Craftytafty says if you want to try method go to twin oaks but you’ll have to be tight across.
Acorns good specially later in the day down the edges but bit of a walk. Sycamores good not like it used to be but still plenty to be caught. Trelawneys good too just ask in tackle shop once there for the areas to head for. -

MrFoxmanI’m also going to WA for the first time in a couple of weeks. I’m taking a sack of micro’s, 4mm’s, 6mm’s, 8mm’s, 24 tins of meat and then about 10 bags of corn. Tesco sell a fairly large bag for under £1, a right bargain!
I’m taking quite a bit of bait just so i don’t run out and also to cover all options, it’s best to take more than you need imo.

TF_Craftytaftyfar too much. Take a quarter of that, that’d be enough for 3 people and even then you’ll bring loads back. One thing you don’t need to do at whiteacres is started bashing loads of bait in.
Save your money and spend it in the bar!!!!

TF_GaryI just got back from White Acres on Saturday. My Dad and I took a sack of 6mm pellets and probably brought two-thirds of it home. We fished every day – sometimes twice a day! I did not use a single grain of corn or cube of meat all week, although I think quite a lot of fish were being caught on meat (big cubes or large punches). Dad probably used about 10 or 12 tins of meat – I am sure he will correct me if I am wrong.
For the matches, I was taking approx 3 pints of 6mm pellets, 1 pint of 8mm or 10mm pellets and a couple of tins of hemp. I think most people take 4 pints of pellets and 4 pints of meat/ corn/ hemp, subject to personal preference. It is a good idea to measure it out because they are pretty strict on bait limits and do carry out bait checks periodically.

TF_NathanWatsonAll depends where you draw but it’s mainly pellet and I’d take more 8mm and micros as said. Just take plenty of micro, 6mm and 8mm, you can always take em back! Same with the meat and corn but most pegs you won’t need it, only maybe for margins on an end peg or peg with room.

Yes i know it’s far too much but i’m worried if I only take a small amount I will end up running out. I don’t want to take the chance. Also don’t worry i’m not planning on filling every peg in at WA with bait.

TF_NW Cut AnglerDo you need to take all that though? Whiteacres has a superb tackle shop and several supermarkets nearby for the tinned baits. Like most people I have been there and often brought back half the bait or more that I took down after adopting the kitchen sink approach.

TF_GaryI love the fact that everyone is criticising the ‘kitchen sink’ approach, whilst also admitting to being culpable of doing exactly the same! Is there anyone that has ever gone to White Acres and NOT taken far too much bait?! lol

Probably not but I’ve paid for it so what’s the point of buying more up there at double the price?

TF_NW Cut AnglerHave a great time irrespective. I often found if you were prepared to be an early riser (nothing drastic) you could have your pick of the pegs.

You’ll be surprised how much bait you don’t go through down there. As for the ‘double the price’ White acres charge a very reasonable price for there pellets and there good pellets aswell.

TF_tip monBearing in mind the room issue in my car, I’m thinking along the lines of half sack of micros, half sack of 6mm and 5 pints of 8mm.
Is this still to much?
Thanks for your advice by the way….all gratefully recieved.
