right lads,, please put me right, when reading the weekly’s i often see, pole,s 16 metres, for sale for as little as £200, with a selection of top kits,, even 11 metre poles for £60 right,,why is it some poles cost near £2000. the technology there to build these poles,,for next to nothing,,,i can,t believe, its the price of carbon,, can it, another thing why is it,,most poles are interchangeable. are they all done on the same mandrel’s,, or near enough,, then just sprayed with different designs ,, and brought out in a blaze of glory,,i wonder if there no graphic,s on the poles,, how many anglers would agree,, what was a decent pole,,i myself have a sensas,, and was amazed to find the top kits off a shakey fit, my pole,, are anglers been ripped off, , or is it some angler don,t care ,,just to be seen with the right pole,,regardless,, many thanks bagger,, waiting for the big guns to reply,,

Try picking up a £200 quid 16 m pole then a 2 grand 16m pole the quality is in the carbon and yes you pay a hell of a lot more for the grade of carbon in a top of the range poles. The mandrels used by the same company are often the same on several of their poles however very few different companies use the same one. Top kits will fit different poles but you wont get a garbo no 5 or 6 to fit any other make of pole.

If you can’t tell the difference you definitely should not spend more than £200 for 16mts ~think

A £200 pole is not the same as a £2000 pole in anyway shape or form. The carbon is different and you would know this if you’d handled both poles. Most aren’t compatible/interchangeable either and if top kits do fit they will totally unbalance the pole the same with sections too.

How do you know that it cost nothing to make these poles??

You get what you pay for if you want a stiff well balanced pole with a nice finish then you have to pay good money for it.

It’s the law of diminishing returns. A £2k pole is not four times better than a £500 model, but you pay the difference to have the better performance at longer distances.

Most poles up from a couple of £100 to just over the grand are great when fishing up to or around the 13metre/ 14 1/2 metre mark, however what the top of the range poles have is extra stiffness, less tip bounce, a crisper action, better balance, less recoil on the strike etc etc thats what you pay for and of course the developement and tecnology that the companies had to spend out to make these top of the range poles for us anglers, however if you can’t tell the differance stick with a £200 pole it will obviously do for you and you won’t feel ripped off.Rob Pottinger who won the garbolino club angler of the year used a cheap carbon pole made up of bit’s, even Dave Harrell remarked that Potty was indeed in dire need of a new pole, and I can remember him using a maver blue vager butt section the rest of the pole were bits from other poles bent like a bannana at 16 mtres to mere mortals an unfishable tool but he still took everyones coin on too regular a basis. The G8 he won last year has had the odd repair already and when I spoke to rob last week he showed me the repair he had lovingly made to his number 6 joint (to me it looked rather grim) I said ever thought about buying a new joint Pot as it’s a shame on such a new pole, maybe he said one day with a sly grin!!!!!!!!!!!!

For starters everyone has answered the questions you asked. They retail at them prices because they are BETTER thats fact and because of the reasons already stated above.

The companies you’ve stated do make poles at them prices but they aren’t that good incomparison to the flagship poles. If you do own a flagship pole you should know the difference even by just the feel of the sections.

You will not get any one of them companies coming on here and explaining it to anyone, i actually think it’s self explanatory why there is a price difference. You only have to look at the poles to know.

You get what you pay for.

SIMPLE There is a big big difference in the quality of the carbons used.

bagger your question HAS been amswered. But, to put it another way, someone can make a 16m pole with extra kits for £200 because they use much cheaper & inferior materials by comparison to the ‘genuine’ £2000 models and therefore the £200 16m pole’s performance is very inferior as a result. Generally you get what you pay for. And carbon is damned expensive stuff. Just because someone sells a £200 16m pole doesn’t mean a £2000 16m pole is a rip-off. Put them side by side and then you’ll feel the difference.
