TF_Waveney OneI have just had my third breakage in 3 outings spread over 3 days. My old landing net handle has lasted years but unfortunately an old head has effectively welded itself on and is full of repairs so needed to be changed. I have a lovely new net head but every time I use it the pole breaks after about 4 carp in the 3 to 5 lb bracket. ~naughty
What are people using?

TF_swingtipbryonce they get to that size perhaps its better to grab the net or have the handle higher

AlexParticipantI bought the drennan series 7 extra strong 3.3m a while back and it seems very strong, no fears of breaking it and i know john dale has the same one and hasnt broke it yet. ive had fish to 16lb on mine and plenty of lower doubles!

TF_Lee WoodI had a Drennan TE nethandle for years without any trouble, one of those blue ones… They were bloody expensive back when I bought it, but working at Birds helped at the time… lol
I would certainly recommend a Drennan…
I have a preston now, as I needed a replacement due to standing on my drennan last year, and couldnt afford a new Drennan at the time 🙂
Doubt the presto will outlast the Drennan, but its okay for the 25 quid I paid for it…

TF_Waveney OneThanks for the reply but I always bring the fish to me in the water and grab the net to lift it out for unhooking with the weight of the fish directly underneath my hand and the handle straight up in the air. Only when I am lowering the net frame onto my knees do I let the landing net pole go down behind me. I have been doing this for years with carp and bream of a similar size with no problems but the new handles I have bought are just not strong enough. The weight of the handle itself (and they are lighter than my old handle) seemed to be enough to break the handle today. Wednesday and last Sunday the thread came out of the handle when the fish had been lowered into the keepnet (again handle pointing straight up) and I was turning the net inside out to get the fish out, fish and net went straight down!
Does anyone use a handle that doesn’t break or will I have to resort to a long extending bankstick!!!?

TF_wildingukbit tartish maybe, and if you can find it for £60 like i did, the airity handle is as tough as old boots.

TF_Waveney OneCheers guys, I will see what Birds have Lee although the one that broke today was from there. I’ll have a look at the ones recommended as I came 2nd today on the Norfolk & Suffolk 70 pegger I have the cash to invest!

TF_Lee WoodWouldn’t be able to tell you what they have at the moment, ain’t been in there for 6 months + … hehe
I hear there are going to be alot of changes in there this year now that David has left the company… Bout time imo, the last time I went in there I felt like I went back in time 10 years… Nothing had changed since I worked there… ~think

TF_wightanglerjust bought a drennan series 7 as replacement, can’t fault the apparent quality,-or the service from Tim Aplin at Matchman supplies.com.
That aside, would have liked a tipper head available on the tri-cast(apparently strong) and the new milo superba for the dosh(£33-35).
tr-cast one hard to find on line(Bag-up tackle 2.7 m sold out). -

Agreed – and versatile if you have the take apart extension. -

TF_Waveney OneBirds of Claydon, Suffolk did not quibble about the handle I returned and suggested that the carbon underneath the thread could even have been broken before I bought it. They had a Drennan series 7 extra strong 3.3m in stock so for an additional £6.45 it would appear that I have now got a proper replacement handle! Certainly looks the business. Not sure that the thread on the second section is really needed and it adds to the weight of course but it will come in handy if I do a bit of piking in the winter with my specimen net
