Decided to fish Bure and Yare at weekend and any help welcome, particularly the Bure which I have never fished. Scaled down version of Yare from info on here but be good to know tackle, tide change, approaches to feeding in matches etc. Interested in how guys on this forum approach the venue.

Glad that you are fishing mate. I haven’t fished it this year yet so looking forward to tomorrow. In the past it has been won with bream when I fished. Either from Thurne Mouth or the pump half way down the section from St Bennets. Once it was won from just upstream of St Bennets. I also recall Tony Gibbons have a winning weight 24lb from memory of roach on a stick float. Most of the catches were roach though and they won most sections on the pole. Depths are only about 6 foot except on the humps downstream of St B where there is deep water on your bank.

Although Simon said the roach haven’t shown too much this year if I were going for them I would be inclined to fish pole at 11 to metres. There is a lot more boat traffic on the Bure than the Yare. It is not very deep compared with the Yare either. Usual tactics I believe are G/B with casters and hemp. 1 1/2 gram floats will be enough. High water sometime between 12 and 1 I think.

I will fish the feeder for bream and skimmers no matter where I draw. 30 gram feeders are enough in most cases, and although the tides are now building again they shouldn’t be too much tide Saturday. Instead of 12’s and 14’s I will use 14’s and 16’s unless I start getting big bream. Hope that helps a bit

Thanks Richard. You gave me some tips last year on an all to rare visit to Yare. I will probably have a go on the pole at some point, just because I can’t resist roach and it would do my head in wondering if they were there in any numbers!

How light a tip can I get away with?

I will take a pole ‘just in case’ and will feed the pole line but it won’t get a look if I am catching on the feeder. A 2 ounce tip will be ample. On the flood you could probably get away with a lighter one and lighter floats and feeders.

Was my advice on the Yare any help mate? I hope so. You will see some cracking roach on Sunday. There are loads coming out on the feeder between 8 ounces and a pound. One or two even bigger most days. The pole is generally giving up smaller fish as the bigger fish seem to want the bait hard on the bottom and still.

                    Very Good.

46lb won the match today. Robert Hubbard who just cannot go wrong on the Broads rivers today. I had 17lb 13oz and had a thoroughly good day catching skimmers and 2 small bream from right behind St Benets Abbey for 3rd in the section.
