had my pro x a couple of weeks now and after previous threads etc have been checking joints regularly and have noticed them coming loose, couple of questions
do they bed in in time an the problem stops?
does candle wax help if so do you coat the whole joint or just put 6 or 4 strips down?
        is there any other tips?
        thanks in advance

I had this problem when I first had my Tournament Pro – it was a case of keep using it and the problem stopped. Don’t know if waxing will help or not to be honest…

I have had my Pro X for about 4 months now,i joint saved it when new with the prestons stuff(about a tenner)for a small bottle, this does help but i still check mine about every hour or so and some sections do work loose,i have put my problems down to fishing shallow though and constantly whipping the rig over etc,but i suspect the rollers could also help them work loose,i am hoping mine will also “bed-in” over time but if it doesn`t its only a small price to pay for an unbelievable bit of kit~clap

Toby, I have had a pro for 6 years now and always use candle wax on the joints. Just a stripe of wax in line with the joint number not all around. I have had an X for 3 weeks and have noticed joints working loose so I now do the same with the new pole.
It certainly helps but you still need to check regularly. When you assemble your pole take great care to line up the arrows, if a joint is working loose you can soon spot it as the arrow allignment is out.

It’s a nightmare, same problem with new and 6 years old, come loose between bites when slapping! Broke 13 and 14.5M joints because ofit and lost several top 3s and 4s! Tried putting parcel tape on and now they often stick together after it’s worn! Going to wash all the tape off and try a bit of wax and then next time I’mn planning on slapping a lot I will tape over the joints on the outside! Not sure if most makes do this or just Daiwa? Heard Maver are ok?

I’ve had Mavers for the last 5 years and the joints have never worked loose. Might be because the joints have all been teflon coated.

The circular motion of slapping the rig down seems to work all joint lose, it could happen on my old lerc 8151 if I didn’t check them.

I have a Daiwa pole and giving them a good twist when putting it together sees the joints not coming apart.

Maybe the guys that don’t have trouble fish paste all the time with a pole pot and static float……lol

Ive had a pro and pro x. On my first session using it a section came apart. But i naturally check the sections without even realising it now and never had a section some apart since. I also twist them as i put them on like Nick.

As has been said above, make sure you line up the arrows when you put the pole together, then it will be immediately apparent if the joints are working loose because the arrows will no longer be aligned. I have had my Pro for 5 years and have never had sections come apart while fishing (shallow or otherwise), but I do check them periodically (probably every hour or two).

As per a number of previous threads, pole rollers contribute to the problem especially when bagging (not a regular problem for me…) and slapping is even worse. Joint aligners are the best clue to spotting movement but nothing beats twisting when putting sections together.
