Hi Guys does anyone have any experience of travel rods? Going on a trip to Cuba and hope to get in a days fishing on the flats for bonefish etc. Been looking at a Wychwood Quest 9′ #8. Does any body have any info? Similarly looking for budget reel that will hold a #8 line & 200yds of backing. I have fly reels but need one with a decent drag I think – for not too much money- if such a reel exists?

        Thanks in advance.

          Hi Mate,

I got a Shakespeare Expedition(?) rod off ebay that was really cheap really small too 9′ but pack size in tube is only about 18″ also in a 10-12 wt which may be better for the big flies needed for bonefish.

As for a reel possibly cheaper the better as the salt water will wreck anything but a serious reel.

You may want to see about hiring a set if it is only for a day then you won’t have to bother taking it as luggage?

I have found Grangers in London to be superb for help and advice as they also specialise in fly trips to places such as cuba.
