Ravensthorpe Reservoir Week ending 31 October 2010

The best fish of the week at Ravensthorpe was a 4lb 4oz Rainbow taken by Ian Pow of Springfield, Milton Keynes.

Anglers have been catching fish deep down on cats whiskers fished slow or static. There have been reports of one or two big fish lost from Platforms 4 and 5. Generally fishing has been challenging.

Pike anglers are putting the effort in with stories of large fish following to the boat but to date the largest taken so far has been around 12lb.

        Ravensthorpe Water October 25th, 2010

        Ravensthorpe Reservoir

Fishing has been increasingly rewarding for boat anglers who have persevered until later in the day. Most afternoons have seen some challenging fishing. Highlight of the week at Ravensthorpe was the Bob Church Trophy match with 14 boats accounting for 66 fish.

Cats whiskers and minkies fished slowly on static around the margins are amongst the best methods.

The pike season is now in full swing and it can’t be long before Ravensthorpe gives up one of its legendary monsters.

Mid week boat winner Mr Tallett of Daventry.

Conditions have improved considerably at Ravensthorpe with the Northampton Anglers Fur and Feather a highlight of the week.

30 anglers fished this competition with Graeme Smith and Alec Ferguson taking first place with six fish for 13lb 12oz.

Fish are being found at varied depths, but most consistently on or near the bottom.

Bank and boat anglers are both catching fish and boat anglers are doing well closer to the shore. Black buzzers are still catching along with corixa patterns fished under the bung at depth. Some fish have been taking snail patterns and minkies on floating lines.

Best bank areas Platforms 4-6 and 11 and 12. Coton car park.

Anglers at Ravensthorpe have enjoyed better conditions and more action. On Saturday 9 October Mr McGregor of Beith caught a 13lb Common Carp and a 9lb Pike on a damsel nymph pattern. The best Rainbow of the week weighed 5lb 8oz and Alec Ferguson returned it safely to the water. Mick Griffin had a nice 4lb plus Rainbow. The majority of fish are still being caught either close to the bottom or in mid water. Best boat tactics have included black skinny buzzers on intermediate lines or floaters with long leaders. Another alternative is to fish corixa well under the bung close in
