Now the dark nights are upon us does anyone have a good source of lighting for rig tying?
I am ok in natural light but for making up rigs and tying hooks I just cannot see properly in any light source I own.
Its getting too cold to tie up on the bank as well now so it means at least a few hours at weekends I have to do prep when I would rather be on the bank.

Sounds like you need to get yourself some spectacles…

Have you tried using the Daylight bulbs?
            Have you need for glasses?

One member on here spent a good 20mins trying to thread solid latex until his youngster was asked to sort it and pointed out that Dad was going blind!!!

A few years ago I bought a magnifying glass with a daylight bulb. It is brilliant for tying rigs, putting on shot, hooks etc. I take it whenever I go on festivals as the light is usually very bad in caravans or lodges. It cost me around £70 cannot find the same one, but have a look at the one in the link, it is something like this you need. It is money well spent – yep I am getting a little older and these help the old pins!

Hope the link works as I dont know how to paste it in.

Thanks Stewart this looks good. Maybe I do need glasses for close up work but in day light I can tie up 22 hooks and put no11 shot on 012 line no problem.
By electric light I struggle with 16 hooks and no8 shot.

John, you could try a bright halogen spot. Some of my teachers also used to use a magnifying glass on a stand with a circular fluo light for doing very intricate labwork. They always claimed that they they could see all the flaws in our work!

Think you need a kinder son too!

try putting black paper on the table and tie rigs hooks over that.
works stevie wonders for me !!

Yes the contrast against black works very well but I suspect I need the extra light and the magnification.
Strange Gary but reading is not a problem even in small print so I am not sure glasses are needed just yet.
Stewarts tip above looks a good bet.
