With the economic downturn i’ve found myself
looking more and more at cheaper end tackle.
And to be honest i’m not sure i’ll ever buy
expensive stuff again you do seem to get a lot
        for your money.
Yesterday i got a Garbolino picker rod and
a Drennan series 7 feeder reel for £55 new.
Has anyone else found they are more drawn to
bargain tackle rather than blowing their wad?
And if so what bargains have you swooped on?

To be honest I never have been into buying “top drawer” rods reels, etc as I couldnt justify the cost. The only time I feel you do see the difference and Im willing to pay top dollar is with top end poles for fishing long 16+.
I have a Garbo rocket Picker rod and rocket waggler rod which are the cheap end of the Garbo ranges and they are fine. I personally dont see how spending 10 times the amount will put that many more fish in my net!!!
Latest cheaper item; Shakey Mach 2 Commercial feeder rod for £26 including postage. Bargain…….

i wanted a new reel about 3months ago and i usually spend inbetween £50-£80.i did some research and then went in a local tackle shop and compared about 4 reels and came away with a drennan series 7 float reel at £32.the reason i chose the drennan was because i thought it was smoother than the others which were more expensive.i must admit ican’t justify spending above £60 in this current climate.

I used to spend 100+ on a rod, but this time
I bought the Drennan Series 7 11ft method feeder rod for 80 quid and was so impressed with it I bought the Drennan Series 7 pellet waggler rod with my chrimbo money for 70 quid and got a free drennan hat thrown in.
Haven’t had chance to try it out yet – could be awhile~think.

If its something that is gonna get extensive use like a pole or a seatbox then i have a no limit budget. However if its something that i will rarely use like a method feeder rod or pellet waggler rod(canal/riveritis lol)then i would look for something in the budget range.By the way, the garbolino picker rods are brilliant value for money.

Just forked out £29 on a Shakey Mach 1 XT 9′ quiver after reading a review by Dave Brittain. I’ve got to say it’s spot on for the job of chucking a small method on snake lakes. I do appreciate fishing with quality gear but I don’t know of a better rod for the job. Anyway, this is a lovely rod and certainly doesn’t have a cheap feel about it.
