I am going to be ordering a new Diaiwa reel to match with a 13 foot feeder rod for distance feeder fishing (nothing too extreme). Looking at a Caldia X. Should I go the whole hog and get a 4000 size or would I get away with a 3500 size for fishing max 80 yards.

        Any feedback would be appreciated.

I use the caldia 4000s for distance feeder fishing mate and they are spot on.Very smooth on the retrieve and the clutch is flawless.
Im sure the spool diameter is the same on the 3500 and the 4000,although the 4000s are deeper.

Thanks for the reply, sounds like a 4000 is favorite then

Its intersting that the spools are the same, I would hope that the gearing is pimped up though.

No difference in spool diameter. 80meters is 100 turns though, a very good chuck.

Take a look at one of these:

                http://www.daiwasports.co.uk/products/coarse/reels/860/1/team-daiwa-match

They do a 4000 size. I’ve used a pair of Daiwa TDA 3500 for the last 6 years with no issues.

I like the look of the Team Daiwa match reels but they do not appear to list a 3500 size anymore.

Not sure if the 4000 would be too big or not, any feedback would be welcome

Unless I have been very sadly mistaken over a large number of years the difference between 3500 reels and 4000 reels is largely down to the spool size! The size of the reel also increases in proportion to the spool size.

Does anyone have a Daiwa 3500 and 4000 size reel to compare the spool size ??

I’ve been using a Daiwa Capricorn 3500 XTC (ornage coloured reel)for a couple of years for distance work, and its fantastic, big spool size, certainly bigger than a TDR 3012, powerful gearing with excellent drag.
This is in the american range, but available on ebay – i managed to get mine for around £30!!
