Hi thinking of purchasing a Tdr 2508 double handle reel to go with my Maver Reactorlite pellet rod.Could anyone tell me the difference between the Tdr and Tdx and does the Tdx warrent the extra £50 or so.What kind of balance would you expect with this combination?

all depends which you prefer to be honest. I have one of each, though both the single handled versions. For me, the tdx is a better float fishing reel as it has a slightly stiffer feel to the wind IMO. It’s slightly more shimano if you know what I mean. But that is just my impression. The push button spools is neither here nor there, it’s good, but unscrewing them is fine too. The handle grip feels nicer. The line clip is much better, but that will only come into play feeder fishing, not float fishing.

I would look at the new TDM before making your mind up though, they will be about 50 cheaper than the TDR and may well prove a great buy.

link to it on daiwa site, might have to wait a month or so for them to start appearing in the shops as they are a 2011 reel.

TDX also have a fold down handle which is a little easier if carrying rods made up. The main difference for me is the line clip which should eliminate any cracking off near the reel from “pinched” line.

Cheers Wildinquk they look well dont they, but i cant see them being discounted that much being new for 2011.Can you see any major difference between these and the Tdr and Tdx range, which might be discounted down now there is a new 2011 model out.

Fishermans friend have them at £99, so guessing it’s a rrp vs ssp thing. The tdx at fishermans friend 209 for dbl handled, tdr 145. Hope that helps, they are listing a tdm 2508 with double handle.

Personally id go for the 3012 size with a quicker retrieve, pellet wag is a busy method with loads of casting and winding in, the faster you wind your float in the faster you can cast it out and be fishing again!!

my dad as recently brought a tdx and a tdr and ive been comparing them. The tdx as 2 more ball bearings, a better line clip and a push botton spool (which if you happen to get into a birds nest and need to take the spool off, will be quicker and easier) also when you put the spool back on, the drag stays how you set it where as on the tdr you have to screw it on/off and re set the drag. Its the little things that make it abit better and the tdx just feels more classier. They are both good reels tho and if you can afford to pay extra 50 i would deffo get one over a tdr.

My mate has just sold 2 TDX’S,he went from using the CU’S before them and in his words the drag on the tdx’s was crap.I still use the cu’s and nothing that Daiwa has made after the cu’s has made me want to upgrade my old reels.

Slippery, cant agree more mate, ive got 6 3003cu s and the only reels i have found better than these are the Caldia x s.Ive picked up a couple of 3000 s and a couple of 4000 s for long chucks, on e-bay new for 70-90 notes, the clutches and winding power on these reels are awesome and i will be changing over completely as my cu s die.
