We have not even reached mid January yet so I would be surprised if we don’t get more cold yet. Mind you some years we don’t get any so that is a possibility as well.

Going colder again next week. Not forgetting we nearly always (I think we have where I live for the last 8-9 years!) have snow the last weekend of Jan into early Feb.

We normally get a 3 week freeze up at around the end of Jan and well into Feb. So, winter is just around the corner.

there is still time for it to get cold yet. But then again we might be over the worst.

“when I was a boy”, February around the Fens was called “February fill dyke”. I still recall my grandfather calling it that. His father kept an angling pub at Godmanchester on the banks of the Great Ouse, putting up anglers, guiding and letting boats. Yes, guiding around the mid 19th century (125 to 150 years ago) although no doubt he would have called it ghillying. The building is still there and is only a little changed from a print that I have of it as the ‘Woolpack’ as it was then but it has been a private dwelling for years now.

So if we are going through a spell of old fashioned winters again then perhaps February will be wet, March windy, coming in like a lion and out like a lamb with April, full of mild showery weather – Fat chance!!

The thaw has come too late for Ackton Pond Anthony. I had a look yesterday and it’s a disaster area. Big carp and skimmers bobbing about all over. Closed until further notice. A tragedy.

Stuart that does not suprise me they lost loads of doubles last year because they had 8 ft of water and 7ft of silt they could do with draining that place and de silt it
