        what the lightest anyone will go for mainline on rigs for canals this time of year i’m using 0.10mm for my chopped worm rigs and 0.09mm on my punch and squatt/pinkie rigs wondering if this may be a touch heavy when the water is clear but maybe 0.08mm is alittle on the delicate side for shot to be moved around on it. Anyone throw any light on it (assuming there are still people out there fishing canals!)

            Generally 0.08 to 0.06 but I have fished 0.06 straight through or with 0.055 hooklength.

              0.9 main to 0.8 hooklength on the local drains pal.

              I seriously cant see that going any lighter will get any more bites.

                I dont see the point in going to light on mainlines for canals, 0.10 is fine enough, as it means I can feel confident using the same rigs for many years. I dont date my rigs , the winders would get mixed up anyway but I know I set up a lot about 4 years ago just before the birth of 2nd child and I have some older than that. I know exactly how they work and should sit and am gutted when they get trashed as it takes quite a bit of work to get them just so again. There is also the theory that the thicker the line the slower the drop

                  I remember reading an article where Jean Desque was fishing one of our midlands canals and he’d use 0.06 diameter straight through where needed.

                  Its what you are confident with ~think

                    all my winter bloodworm rigs for the stainy are made up to 0.12.last for the whole winter.only use 0.06 and 0.07 hooklengths for roach and 0.09 for skimmers/bream.
