TF_RhinoLike Nathan I have being lucky enough to fish both so have a little insight.
IMO the Parkdean is excellent and is probably harder to qualify for as you have to be consistent over 5 days against 179 top level festival anglers. The day is well run and has a lot of excitement but crowds are relatively small.
Fish O however has far higher media coverage, live TV and a pretty big crowd. It also offers more people a chance – draw a flyer, fish 1 good match and you could qualify – easier said than done though sadly! With qualifiers over several months most anglers have a long build up to anticipate the match. Its good to see the prize has risen this year – not before time though. I would like to see a bigger spread of prizes on the day to spread the incentives.
The maver one starts this year so it will be interesting to see how it goes.

TF_Nigel.How about a 4 match series, 80 pegs, £80 pools, 100% payout, and have all the top 40 anglers in it, and another 40 qualifying each year, so anyone can get to go in it, and have it televised over 4 x 1/2 hour programmes on sky, and sponsored by a big tackle name like Preston, and we will call it the UK Angling Championship!~clap

a decent national on a well mapped and well pegged canal.
so what if you’re fishing for a few pounds in weight? It’s the dog poo, walkers, cyclists, boats, car not safe that put me off but mainly the dog poo!

TF_dave brittainI think if the Maver was a structured payout rather than winner take it would have taken some beating and would have given Fisho a run for its money.
As it is the UK Champs is an excellent competition as is Fisho

AnonymousHold the final on a fish filled, commercial, ruler straight, 12 metre wide, canal venue.
Ten finalists only, each with a netted off section to themselves with the same weight of fish in front of all of them.
All ten anglers are miced up throughout the match with television coverage provided by a remote controlled monorail camera on the far bank which stops opposite each angler at various moments of action or zooms in to anglers headshots as they talk to camera giving insights to their tactics/match plans the other anglers can’t hear.
£20,000 to the winner with £1000 ‘bounty’ prizes for catching a 20lbs ‘lump’ of which there is one only in every netted off peg. -

TF_dave brittainTerry
I couldn’t think of anything worse than watching a final where all the anglers were fishing exactly the same tactics trying to pull fish from a rat hole in the far bank.
Open or wide island venues offer much more in the way of diversity, methods and tactics

TF_bluebottleParticipantHow about combining all three venues.
one on a commy, one on a canal and one on a river.Does anyone think this would work.
Have it somewhere central ,possibly on the basis of the parkdean masters or over 3 weekends. just say for instance Lake View,
River Soar,Erewash canal.Would this be of interest to anglers and would it get the backing and of course a bit of sponsorship.
I think if anglers could fit it in with there
calendar possibly August/September time.
Any ideas ,just a thought. It would appeal to me whether i did any good or not? -

AnonymousDave: Fair comment, just putting some ideas out there. (Don’t think all the fish would be caught at 12 metres though)
Fisho needs a rethink on the technical side from angler to viewer in my opinion.
I’d also only have a set number of each species in each netted off section like: 50 2lbs carp, 30 1lb skimmers, 20 8oz roach etc, so the viewer also new throughout the match how much weight of fish was still in front of each angler. I think we need more public participation in anglings televised events. (£1 a phone call to guess the weight in an anglers net during the match?) You only have tolook at the popularity of X Factor/I’m a Celeb/Strictly etc to see where the TV money and bigger prize money for match fishing is. -
