Why do some match organisers allow carp to count on silverfish matches, seems to be every silvers match round my way with the exception of one.
Carp count as a £ or their weight.
Ive lost out on places because somebody has had 5,6,7,carp and they are ahead of my silvers weight.
Silverfish matches should be just that to my mind…

        What do you think ?

silver fish matches should be silvers only, cant see why carp should count otherwise make it a normal match and let them count!!!

Exactly G,i ended up 6th in a league match, when if carp didnt count,i would have been 3rd.Cost me points, and points mean prizes.

Some organizers make rules up to suit there selves if it state silver only then let it be silver only.

Silvers only, less confusion at the scales.

Here we have silvers, and carp dont count.
F1s do, as they arnt realy carp, and they have been stocked in in fisheries to give us better winter sport, so they do count, and its easy to identify as they don’t have barbels.

As long as the rules are stated before, then it cant be any fairer, its the same for every one, if you catch one its your benefit.~clap

I thought they did have a pair? Carp two pairs, crucians none. Sure F1s have a small set

I run silverfish only matches and carp of any kind, goldfish and crucians and koi etc, don’t count for anything. However, despite clearly listing what does count there are still the thickies that have great difficulty understanding the phrase ‘carp of any kind don’t count’.

Those that turn up and start saying you should allow carp to count have clearly not understood the phrases ‘silverfish only’ and ‘carp of any kind dont count’. They are challenging individuals and sometimes small clusters of pools bandits who are known for their attempts to modify the rules to their own benefit. I have little time for them.

When they do persist I say to them, ‘do you want to fish or leave?’ or ‘if you want carp to be weighed in. Then YOU do it and YOU provide your own weigh scales and weigh sheets and get the permission from the owner to do it’ they have all to a man backed off.

I see no sense in running Silverfish/No Carp Matches and then weighing the damn things in, and those that do are only pandering to pressure from those that really are at a loss for a carp match that day.

Stepping away from the soap box now…

silver fish matches are just that..silver fish only, bream roach, tench(yes its green not silver)perch rudd gudgeon chub (if stocked)and ide ect..not sure if f1’s crucians and barbel(if stocked) should count ..but thats down to owner/match organiser~think
and common carp mirror carp are carp and shouldn’t be weighed..simple as that~naughty

IMO it should be silverfish only, carp should count as nothing. Of course you’ll get some people moaning that they were unfortunate to be sat on a shoal of carp. The way I see it is atleast they get their string pulled a bit. Better to have a good days fishing and come nowhere than being sat on an empty peg in a carp match and coming nowhere ~think

                                Fair enough

I don’t agree there as there could be crosses in your lake that have bred naturally. They won’t be F1’s but they may be common/crucian and some may have barbules and some not.

Not sure about the fairer bit but at the end of the day the rest is correct and people can either fish or go home!!

I thought all F1’s were sterile. (unable to breed)

They do have tiny barbuls yes, but its a good way if distinguishing between small commons and F1s.
Absoloutly correct, carp and goldfish or crusions will give a hybred offspring (F1s) which then wont reproduce themselves.
They are Carp, but IMO opinion, are different, they arn’t king carp.(there genearly small, and dnt affect match results)
What an organiser like Pete doesn’t want, is an angler catching one or more BIG carp, a couple of 5lb carp spoil a match, and then what you get is everyone fishing for carp, sitting behind a tip rod with corn on for 5 hours hoping to get 5 pull rounds and win the match, it bores the tits off me, and that’s why i dont fish Meadowlands or Makins anymore, i cant sit in the winter waitng for a carp, i would rather be on a Bloodworm or silvers match.

As we all agree, as long as the rules are stated at the start, you can fish or go home!

What a match organiser like me doesnt want is to run a match where carp count. Period!~clap
