Been using Preston 9h alot and was wondering if a double 5 would be alot softer as I have never used doubled laccies?? I am assuming the double 5 would be better on a mixed fishery when catching skimmers and carp? Thanks in advance.

You have to try it. Everyone plays fish and elasticates their own way. I use 9H on winter commies or summer skimmers(bagging), but I also like Latex no.6 in a full match top for summer skimmers

we use double 4-5 inwinter and summer double 8 and margin double 16+ thats solid latex preston not hollow
never heard of hollow used as to soft and plyable in my oppin

always used double no5 in conjunction with a pulla bung for my skimmer work
nice and soft for skimmers and always handy with a pulla if the carp show up

How big are the skimmers you guys catch FFS? I have been using Middy Hi Viz 3-4 for skimmers mostly from 4 to 8 oz with occasional 1 to 3 lb fish (that anywhere other than the R. Yare are called bream!)and had no problem getting them in.

Totally agree, double no5 for skimmers with a pullabung!!. There not skimmers there dustbin lids. I used double no6 for carp up to 4lb today and I thought that was too heavy.

always found double 5 to be good its soft enough for the skimmers
where i fish there are a good head of skimmers up to 3lb only drama is when the odd carp 5-9lb shows its face it steams off thats where the pulla comes into play
and with every thing each to thier own

Double elastics are good in my eyes as there soft at lower rateings but power up alot quicker than a hydo or hollow elastic , i have used a double 10 latex before, is excellent for the bigger carp you can feel it power up , i use pulla bungs with a double 4 , 6, 8 though just incase of a carp or 2 as people have stated ….

I’m losing faith with doubles 5 and 6 because it powers up too quickly. When you’re bringing in skimmers, there often isn’t enough give left to cope with their head shakes.

I’ve tried it with looser elastics, but end up with it drroping from the pole tip, so need to have it a bit tighter.

Given the choice, I’d now opt for 9H or perhaps even lighter double solid: maybe 3 or 4.
