if you use say a no4 elastic doubled do you still get the same finesse as you would if it were single with the added bonus of more strength as it gets stretched further or is it more robust from the outset????

It depends on how you tension it, but yes it tends to be slightly harsher

            Absolutely NOT !!!

If you take a single No 4 and then double it up it (so same working length. e.g 2m originally and now 4m doubled so 2m working length again) will be TOTALLY different. The amount of force originally required to stretch the single No 4 will now have to be double that to stretch the doubled No 4 the same amount.

Whatever anyone else tells you is wrong.

Prove it to yourself. Set up 2 top kits identically. Same elastic. Single through one kit and then same elastic just doubled up in the other. Then get someone to hold the kit and stretch the elastic out via the connector and with that attached to scales. Note the reading at every 50cm further you pull it out. EVERY time the doubled elastic will need DOUBLE the force to stretch it the same amount.

            FACT.

The point is that when people use doubled elastic they very rarely if ever get both sides of the doubled elastic the same. That gives them the impression that that the doubled is softer as they pull on an end. In fact they are are only pulling the elasticity in one piece of elastic until it stretches enough to pull the other as well.

That is why they say that it gives elastic freely then hardens up.

There isn’t 1, just a gimmick to get you to buy more elastic! Started by well known anglers with too much time on their hands!

Nathan wrong started by ingenious angler when the crowd forgot the scales for the match so they doubled up heavy elastic and measured the lenght of stretch to find the winner ask Davies angling for one TONY SAUNDERS FACT

I’ve heard that before! I meant for using in poles!
