put about 1/2 inch of water in a baitbox then tip in some fresh maggots (look for a big feed spot )not too many maggots make sure they arent on top of each other .cut a square in your lid so they cant crawl out and you can get your hand in .maggots think their drowning and take in air just test em every now n again in spare tub filled with water .usually takes about 20 mins .

There is no advantage to using lemonade rather than water. Despite popular bankside beliefs, the maggots don’t take in the liquid so don’t take in the gas. They take in air to stop themselves drowning. That is what makes them float.

andylaw7 is right about the best way to do it but I would say that if you use lake or river water at this time of the year the maggots may well drown as the cold water will stop them taking on air. I do mine at home before going out with very slightly warm water.

If you can get your hands on an old ‘Colditz’ box they are the best. They are round and have 2 lids, the first having 2 lips on it that even wet maggots cannot get over.

The idexsale (not sure on the spelling) were good too – square boxes like the Drennan, but with two lids. Not sure on the availability, mine came free on the Anglers Mail years ago!

I’ve used coke to make maggots float, caught a few fish on them too! Not sure it was any better than using water mind.
