TF_chirstophParticipantHi,
If you have any questions about Lymm Angling Club, any rumours you have heard, good or bad please post and I will try my best to answer as much as I can.
Just a little bit about the club over the last few years.
Approx 5-10 years ago Lymm was on a very steep downward slope, loosing waters and members. This didn’t go un-noticed by the angling community or its members and slowly and surely the committee was changed all but two people. The paid secretary role was abolished and the committee became completely volunteer lead. Since then the club is now actively seeking new waters and membership is growing. Due to popularity on carp forums such as Northern Monkies the membership tends to be carp based. We have a very good fishery management team and this year we didn’t have a big fish death on any of our waters, I think we lost one carp out of all our waters. In the last five years we have taken on:
- 4 stretches of the Shropshire Union, a stretch each of the Llangolen and Macclesfield Canals. [/*:2vvhcokz]
- Wrinehill Pool a former quarry in Staffordshire, Predominately a carp runs water this winter there has been a 3lb+ perch come out with lots of 2’s reported. [/*:2vvhcokz]
- Chester Lakes Specimen Lake. This is a large lake just at the back of Chester Lakes commercial fishery. This is a specimen carp water with fish 40lb+ reported. Some monster eels have been caught and some pristine roach caught [/*:2vvhcokz]
- Milton Brook, two horseshoe lakes. Again a predominately runs carp water. Lots of carp 4-8lb and as every peg has an island its a great water for fishing the method.
- Spring and New Pool, are back on the card. Now run as a commercial fishery Lymm have access for members Mon-Fri April – October and all week October – April. This water has always been a members favourite with large bags of bream from New Pool and big bags of Ide from Spring. [/*:2vvhcokz]
- Walkmill Pool, this is a silver only lake (flood plain) near Waverton. Some stunning roach from here. Club match results of 10lb+ per angler last year. Suffers from weed in the summer but soon to be treated. Great sport in the winter. [/*:2vvhcokz]
In addition to these we have waters such as Grimsditch owned by the club. This was netted two years ago and 1000’s of small skimmers removed and small tench added. Since then the remainder fish have grown on to average 12oz plus with tench now around 8-10oz. These offer great sport on light tackle. Regular match weights here are 20-30lb in the summer, 10lb+ in winter.
We have some of the best stretches of River such as River Severn at Atcham. We host fish-ins here twice a year and they are great for river novices and a great social occasion and of course free to members.
We have an overstamp scheme for the closed season that some of our most popular waters are closed to all except those who attend two x six hour work parties or pay the additional management fee. This ensure that our estate department have the man power to do work necessaryto bring water upto scratch.
Finally, we start our junior section in March offering ‘Introduction to Angling’ course to kids new to angling as well as advice to experienced anglers interested in matches. We also offer alternative curriculum programs such as Duke of Edinburgh award and a GCSE in Fishing.
