Have just purchased a ‘Pieriotti’ type hook length tier and a RIVE box kit with hook trays.
Having a problem getting the hook lengths to fit the trays….basically i’m struggling ! ,any ideas ?

Can it be done ? or what id the best way to get ‘same’ hook lengths onto the trays ?

        Appreciate any help !

I tie the hook on first then hook it onto the peg . Then draw the line up to the loop peg ,tie a loop and trim . (I am not familiar with the rive trays but it works on others)

I think it’s a lot less stressfull to not need your hooklengths perfect, as long as they within an inch or so whats wrong with that??

Because you have to change your depth if you need to change you hooklength!

and that takes all of 3-4 seconds, as long as you have the depth marked on your pole it’s no big deal really, once you have dead depth you know you have the depth of your swim, but normally during a match you get and hit more bites within a few inches of that either up or down so you ajust and tweak here and there to get whats best on that particular day.

I don’t know about the hook tyre but once saw tight lines and Neil mkinnon was on and he showed u how to make thn all same length , i now tie perfect length hook lengths everytime .

Simon Pavey’s explanation is easy enough to follow and with a little practice it is easy to do. You want them the same length otherwise they won’t fit on the pins properly and your hook box will be a right old buggers muddle, not needing to alter the depth when tieing on a new hooklength is secondary to that and just an added bonus.

I use the Pro Hook Tie.

Tie the loop first with a Sensas hook tyer then just tie the hook using the above piece of equipment

At a push I reckon I could do nearly 60 an hour and they will be all the same length

I use the pro hook tie which I got from Davis angling and with that you tie the loop first and this then attaches to a pin following which the line passes around the hook tier and the hook is then whipped on. You get exactly the same length every time complete with loop – Brilliant.

I use a Pierotti tyer as well and get perfect hook lengths all the same, every time.

Admitted it took me a bit of practice getting the method sorted, but once you ‘get it’, then you can run off loads of identical hooklengths in no time at all.

Use a sensas loop tyer first and have the tyer’s bar set to the desired length for your hook board.
Once you have the Pierotti set, you will hardly need to move it if at all.

I guess the key is having the technique/method of using the pierotti sorted and repeating the process the same every time.

                                    Hours of fun!!!

I agree with Gunta, that is how i tie mine, same length every time!

I have the Preston hook wallets and I think the principle is the same.

I tie the hook first (freehand) then put the hook on one peg. I then loop the line around the other peg in the wallet. I use this approach to determine where the loop will be, then tie the loop with a Sensas loop tyer. The bit of line used to tie that last knot means that the hook length is tensioned just nicely in the wallet

Have managed to get going on these hook lengths. The best lesson was the Des Shipp on Tight lines ( Neil McKinnon also).

Big thanks to all the suggestions , think my Pieriotti is a little redundant now 🙂
