As the title says i’m looking for a new feeder rod to fish the barston matches, needs to be able to chuck 70yds but be soft enougth for the f1s and skimmers. Anyone got any recommendations or anyone that fishes Barston what they are you usin.

The garbolino 13ft long distance is a great mix softness and will chuck the 70 yards easliy with the right reel on. I use mine for bream and skimmers as do many anglers in my area. It comes with several tips and a carrier section as well as a method hollow tip which is brilliant for distance or when the tow is strong or you need to give it some on windy days and is still easliy soft enough to give great bite detection. Simply perfect as a general feeder rod.

Another vote for the Garbolino Super G13 distance feeder, awesome piece of kit and a rod that many use at Barston as I’m sure Nigel would confirm.

Garbo rod mentioned is a cobbled together piece of sh*t imo. If it’s a proper 70yards get youself a Shimano Speedmaster/Aerocast or a Browning 13ft King Feeder.

Shimano Med aerocast is ideal for Barston.

MMMMMmmmm, i cant coment on other rods, i have been using a 12 foot tourny pro rod.
Ill give you a tip i found last year, (but keep it to yourself~shh ) use a short rod, and a long landing net handle!
As when you bring thse F1s to the top the buggers come off! I have tried in line methods, in fact all types of method feeders, and they still come off, even on a short chuck 10 foot rod, but with the long net handle and shorter rod, they come up closer to you, and you can reach them, and you can net them first time!
A lot of fishing was done on that 35 yard line last year, its not all big chucks, there are few pegs around the mid teens opposite the fountain that need a good chuck, but that’s only 1/2 a dozen pegs.

The trouble is, if you haven’t got a good rod and reel, your bound to draw there, lol. ~clap

carpus67: What rod do you currently use and what don’t you like about it?

There are a couple of rods that I have used and both had faults but they could be accommodated by changing the style you fished:

Daiwa Tournament Z/X SW11/13 would cast the distance but at 13′ when playing fish under the rod seemed far to stiff. If you played fish holding the handle rather than supporting the handle along your arm I found you lost less.

Preston 13′ Carbonactive seems to cast to the left on compression so this needs to be compensated for (not sure if that is just me or if anyone else has noticed that). Although it does have a progressive action, it seems to come on at massive rates under pressure so turn off the backwind when you have a fish on.

                        Alright Wayne,

got a couple of 12’6 preston feeder rods both with 3 top sections rather than push in tips.

you can try one first if you want.
