Haha, no, and there is nothing (yet) to stop you spodding but i would ban it if it started or everyone would have to do it!
Spodding is a method that ha-sent arisen much in matches yet. I know Jon Arthur and Rob Wooten did it last year at Furzton, and won easily, but if spodding starts coming into matches, then match organisors will ban it imidiatly.
                Its not matchfishing is it?

It’s an interesting question because what is the difference between having your feeder out and then spodding out small particles or firing balls of ground bait over the top with a catapult?

Well I can only speak for myself but I’d sooner hook a dirty great double figure carp on the tip whilst I had a catty in my hand than a spod rod, I’m crap at juggling!

Spodding has been used on Fuzton by all the regular match anglers targeting bream for the last 3-4 years. This has probably come about because of the number of crap… sorry carp anglers who where spodding at distance with large amounts of bait including pellets and crushed bollies, this pushed the bream out of range of normal anglers baits so we changed our approach. As with anything new the thinking early adopting anglers cleaned up and still win very regularly with big weights, 80lb plus is often needed including some great big roach. Throwing a spod a long way accurately isn’t easy especially in a good wind, which is more often than not on this prolific large open water. It’s also helped the local tackle shops selling us nice new long distance kit. You can still have a pleasant day fishing at 40 yards just not in a match. Try it on any big open bream/carp mixed water where the carp anglers spod just ask if they get pestered by the bream.
