Not done alot of this but i know theres a little more finesse required than normal carping, caught a few yesterday but felt there was more to be had.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated i.e. rigs, feeding, and best way to mount pellet, with a band on a hair or just hooking a banded pellet??

        Thanks in advance

Main thing is plenty of slapping! Light feeding of 4 or 6mm pellet, same in a band, on a hair, normally 1ft deep, sometimes shallower, 0.12 or 0.14mm line to an 18 or 16 B911 eyed for me. Feed and slap, then a few more slaps, feed, slap, never leave bait still as that’s when you miss bites and foulhook fish!

Keep it simple, if you get it right you will be catching a lot so dont want anything that tangles or can break. Personally for F1’s I go for:
              – 0.12 line
              – 18 B911 eyed,
              – Hair rig a micro band for 4mm or 6mm pellet.
              – White hydro
              – Bait will dictate float choice.
              – Shortest length of line above float allowed.
              – Tap pole tip if allowed, if not then slap the rig and have a bulk shot half way between float and bait so you get 3 things hitting the water, 3 noises.
Feed 4-6 4mm regularly, amount and frequency is dictated by response.
              – have spare rigs to hand.
              – try to get a sense of the response you are getting, may need to in/decrease feed, in/decrease frequency etc…

Mick Wilkinson Pea or Malman Slap for a bit deeper and I prefer all the shot directly under the float for a natural drop.

I’m sure an entire book could be written about this, so many variations on a theme.

When fishing shallow, I always prefer to get the fish feeding confidently before fishing for them, this might mean feeding for 30 minutes before even attempting to catch them. F1s can be finicky. Best to wait to see swirls on top till you know they are there in numbers. Catching them will be far easier too.

KC Carpa Power 4×10 a good float for small baits. On some days caster will catch you F1s and its not always pellets that do the damage, although I would always start on the pellets.

Consider having no float on at all if you are allowed, it will outscore having a float on most of the time if its calm enough not to blow rig about. Bites will put elastic out. Fish with pole above surface, i.e. not floating.

Your experience and confidence will grow with time, its not an instant skill like some people think it is. Firing bait via catapult around pole tip whilst holding pole, preferably always shorter than where you are fishing is key too.

                    Can be very exciting fishing.
                    Good luck
