A great reel for surfcasting, rockfishing, piers, etc is the Shimano Super Ultegra 10000. This will last you a lifetime and will not let go of that fish of a lifetime. Excellent quick front drag, excellent line lay that will help you casting further and a smooth retrieval. If this sounds too powerful have a look at the Shimano Navi 7000 or 8000. Anyway just go for a Shimano, having tried different brands this is the one worth every single penny you pay for.
