TF_Fred DavisI said I would report on how I had faired using the sonubaits hookers and groundbaits, first match last thursday was the inter services match was at barston and I used the sonubaits F1 sweet fishimeal groundbait mixed with micro’s 50/50 on the method at barston I started on the long chuck and used a sonubaits tuti fruti orange boilee never had a bite so I switched to my shorter line at 40 metres and had a carp of near 20lb on the method followed by a string of bream and f1’s for a total of 42lb and fourth from 72 anglers and a team win. second match was a civils service national qualifier (very small match top 6 qualify to represent london in the national team champs) puddleduck road lake meant to fish the method to the island but forgot the mold for the small method so switched to the shovel (preston pellet feeder) again saame mix but this time a sonubaits red strawberry dumbell on the hook first cast the tip flew round and I had a string of carp, sometimes 3 on the same pellet, until 12.30 then it was like a switch couldn’t buy a bite on the strawberry pellet so switched to a white chocolet dumbell and managed a couple during the dead period, as things were getting harder I switched to a F1 dumbell at least it was the same colour and smell of the groundbait and caught to the end for a weight of 95lb and a win on the qualifier, now I had drawn at the end of the lake with the wind blowing down that way so was in the right area but was really pleased at how easy it was fishing the dumbells, at first I was a bit sceptical about using them as I normally would prefer skrettings hard pellets banded, after this match I will definately have these in my bag, Last match was lake john London postal region section winners final where I again used the sonubaits F1 fishmeal groundbait for a section win (50lb+ of skimmers/bream on’t pole) although I used corn on the hook, 3 matches 3 pick up’s so all in all at the mo I am fairly impressed with the sonubait groundbait and dumbells obviously I need to try the boilees a bit more however I’ll give them a little go at stafford moor when I’m down there
Chatting to John Brennan he has been using the sonubaits sweet fishmeal in black and is equally impressed with the groundbait -

TF_Fred DavisFishing baits firstly the range is well thought out, secondly value for money, the price is right imo, most importantly does the product works and more importantly how it works.
I am not a sponsered angler and have always voiced my honest opinion, although i have had some very minor sponsership I have always taken it only if I considered it to be the best for my fishing and will only promote what I beleive to be up there with the best, that was the case with ultima lines which I still use to this day
No disrespect to maruku as there products are undoubtably superb and well thought out especially the groundbait range that requires no ridling, I am certain that maruku is possibly the best out there in terms of how the product is made for certain circumstances, as an example they grade the particles for bigger or smaller specimans etc
however we mainly fish for match carp or bream these days and fishmeal is fishmeal whether finely ground or not irrespective of additives added to the groundbait such as seaweed, krill or feed stimulants etc Carp are like pigs at a trough when feeding well, see it and they will eat it, when it comes to it does it matter if I use a fishmeal groundbait that comes in a two kilo bag which costs less than another groundbait of double the cost, if money was no object then I would give the maruku groundbaits including some that cost in excess of £6 a bag a whirl, may still do when I’m flush, the sonubaits bandum are £1.99 a tub and are a great target bait, when I used them at puddleduck road lake I was informed the hook bait that was working well was meat, now although I had meat with me I did think do I wan’t to be ar*ed using a meat punch korum quickstop etc which costs time much easier to band a bandum if it worked valuable seconds add up in a match, so it was a red bandum that went on as bait (even if it was strawberry) if it worked great if not a switch to meat could be made, a switch to the white bandum was done in the harder time of the day as bread punch sometimes works ( during this period) to winkle out an additional fish when all else has failed, obviously I may now go back and see if they do a yellow bandum (i think they do a pinapple yellow flavour) and try it when sweetcorn is the “in bait” obviously at £1.99 it ain’t going to break the bank!
I think that maruku have launched there fantastic range of groundbaits at a time of austerity, anglers who can afford to buy two bags of groundbait for in excess of £13 plus expensive hooker pellets etc on top of pools diesal/petrol brekky etc deserve every penny if they win using the stuff, most anglers i know are trying to reduce the cost of bait etc which is why lots of anglers only use pellets corn etc, chatting to Nigel Harry at Barston I was asking about bait requirements for a forthcoming match and he suggested taking worm, maggot and caster on top of pellets and the normal baits I just asked the requirement for a 5 hour match, he also remarked that the locals all use pellet in the weekday matches and don’t even buy wriggly baits because it’s cheaper.
Cost is Key! 😉 -

TF_TommoWell done Fred!
Can’t help thinking that if you’d have used the bronze krilled maggot feeder on your long line in your first match you might have emptied it! 😮 LMBO!! 😀
Also an angler of your obvious calibre ditching the method cos you forgot the mould! What the….! In the good old days you would have used your hands? Were they a bit sore from those long evenings couting all your money?! 😀

TF_Fred Davistommo 🙂 never get time to count it as it goes straight in the wallet  the good old days when we used to mold groundbait around a large method feeder, however you obviously havern’t seen the preston mini method feeders about the size of a 50p, with mits like mine it would take ages to mold groundbait and create a lot of mess around such a tiny object, when using these the mold is the only option, especially with the size of my mits 😉

TF_TIDALWAVE1Sonu baits bandums are £3.99. 🙂
i have also used a couple of the Maruyku groundbaits, and have caught using them, easiest groundbaits ever to mix up perfect everytime.
but have now gone back to using my previous groundbaits from Bait Tech, purely to help keep costs down when using large amounts of groundbait,or when adding other items such as maggots, worms etc on top of your bait bill -

TF_Fred Davisthey obviously marked up the price wrong on the ones I bought how fortunate 😀
still even at £3.99 I won’t be complaining especially as they paid for themself more than 20 times over, money well spent 😀 😀 😀
