How would you go about feeding the margins on a lake where the carp are wise and quite spooky? Fish up to 8lb but average 3-4lb.

        fishing mainly meat.

every 15 mins throw about 5-6 cubes in but don’t fish it for at least 90 mins, when your ready to fish it loose feed 5-6 cubes then follow it down with your hookbait straight away try get your hookbait going down the same speed as the loose feed 😉

Two main ways of feeding the margins for the bigger lumps that have seen most things on our commercials that i like to use. First and the method of feeding that i use most often (It gives me a chance of bagging up on the smaller carp if they are in my peg and/or holding the bigger lumps if they are in the mood to feed) is to feed lots of hemp and a bit of meat very often. We are talking about feeding 4 pints of hemp in the first 4 hours of the match and up to 2 pints of meat. Towards the last hour of the match. I normally dont need to feed much apart from a few bits of meat to really bag up. The aim is to make lots of noise with the hemp by feeding by hand or with a catty. Big wise carp like nothing beter than lots of hemp to feed on and they struggle not respond to the sound of it going in every 5 minutes or so from what i,ve experienced. With this method of feeding. I would not attempt to catch in the margin for the first 2 hours and the longer you wait. The better the margins will be. 90 minutes of catching in the margins with confident feeding lumps give you a very big weight. More than two hours of bagging and i would expect to win the match on most venues that i fish. Its a great active feeding method for catch either average szed margin carp or the bigger seen it all before lumps. If those bigger carp are in the mood. Not many lumps that can resist lots of hemp in a margin and the sound of it must drive them crazy at times! I think most of the speci lads would agree that hemp and plenty of it takes some beating on most venues.

The second method of feeding in the margins that is perfect for those seen it all before margin lumps is the no feed, feed method of feeding. Steve Ringer did an article on it a few years ago which opened a few anglers eyes to its potential. However, i, ve not seen it being used for a few seasons now on the venues i fish. Simply feed 1 piece of corn, meat or a big pellet every minute or two in each margin swim. The idea behind this method of feding is that there is only one piece of food in the peg at any one time. There is not enough feed in the margins to hold the smaller carp in your swim for any length of time but there is not enough feed in your margins to spook any bigger clever lumps as they go though your peg. Those big old clever lumps tend to stay away from active feeding fish. However, they will eat individual baits as they pass though a swim if they see that food item as being safe. Individual food items are safer than lots of food in a small area! Remember, that those bigger carp know that anglers are attempting to catch them. But, they will still be in your peg very often evn if you dont normally catch them. They just avoid those areas of your swim where the smaller carp are feeding or at least dont often feed in those areas for very long! Thats the big reason why we dont normally catch big and small carp from the same swim until the very end of our matches in the margins until the bigger lumps deside its safe to feed before all the food is eaten. This second method can be used from the start of a match and should normally be fished for the whole match. The aim is not to line the carp up in the margin and bag up. Instead, the idea is to pick off individual carp as they move though your peg though the day. 12 bites gives you 100lb+ if those carp are 8lb+. If those bigger carp are in your peg in numbers. A very big weight can be on the cards when others would struggle to catch more than one or two of the bigger fish.
