This summer the Dyke has been dominated by bream weights and the occasional barbel.
Peg 40 down to the end of Hudsons Bay is the area to draw with bream having shown up on nearly every peg at some stage. The high 40’s and low 50’s would be where i wanted to be 46 to 54. 49 is a noted big chub and barbel peg (over to the far bank trees)
Standard chop worm and caster just past middle usually does the business, but on some days you do have to go right over – depends on flow and colour.
They do seem to move about alot in response to water levels and angling pressure – the same pegs do not always perform on consecutive matches.
As a general approach – chop worm and caster ground bait feeder at 2/3 over, worm, maggot, caster, corn and pellet all work on their day ( with the option of going further over) and hemp and casters down the side for a bonus barbel if you have a bit of depth and/or flow – or pellet if that’s your poison.
The roach are there and low double figures are starting to show for the classy roach anglers, but hemp has not predominated as it did last years’ low clear conditions.
Hope that helps – good luck
