spodding at 70 reel turns /70 yards will a 2&3/4lb test curve carp rod and a shimano 8,000 shimano baitrunner using 20lb braid be up to casting a large spomb the distance?

its a good idea to use a spod rod for distance fishing. Its an effective and nice way to fishing.

You are really going to have to use a proper spod rod. The most weight your 2.75 tc rods are happy to cast at range is about 3.25 oz a full large spomb weighs in at about 6 oz or so.

                Hi there

Are you sure one crank is equal to a yard . The 8000 is a small spool , I have daiwa emblem spods which have a larger spool and they are a metre to a crank . ESP do a nice cheap spod rod which can handle any size spod you’d want to chuck.

I use shimano 8000’s up at loch ken.
1 turn equates to just less than 33 inches so I knock 10% off the number of turns
eg. 70 turns will be about 63 yds
