        Rutland Water

Rutland Water is fishing well in spite of the recent adverse weather. Gordon Anthony of Whittlesey took a 5lb 8oz Rainbow on Sunday along with two other fish from the Old Hall. Gordon Alleyne of Wansford reported a cracking fish off the peninsula mid week using a skinny minkie. Wittering angler Keith Jones (R.A.F) had one Rainbow and lost three on Saturday. Keith also returned a Brown estimated around 6lb from Whitwell front.
Fish are being caught from the Old Hall end of the Peninsula, Whitwell Creek and the Finches, plus Normanton to Fantasy Island. Fish are feeding well on daphnia, shrimp the odd fry, sticklebacks and corixa. Good numbers of fish in the 3-5lb category are showing.

The season ends on 31 December. During December the fishing lodge is open 9am to 2pm (closed Mondays and Tuesdays). Day tickets are also available from the Normanton Toilet Block and the ticket hut near the Rok Blok at Whitwell.
        Gift vouchers
With Christmas not far away Anglian Water gift vouchers make ideal presents – available in values of £10 and £20 they can be redeemed against goods in our shops or fishing and boat permits.

        Grafham Water
Grafham Water has fished well this week for both bank and boat anglers. 33% of the trout caught are weighing 3lb or over.

The main event of the week was the annual Fur and Feather bank match – the final match of the season. 16 Hardy souls faced a bitter cold westerly wind on Sunday. Most anglers sought shelter by fishing Gaynes Cove and Plummers. The best fish of the match went to our very own Kevin Appleton – a fine Rainbow of 5lb. Kevin also won the match overall. The prize for the best fish of the match passed down the line to a cracking Rainbow of 4lb 11oz. Plummers was the destination for all three anglers who caught limits.
        1st Kevin Appleton 6 fish for 17lb 6oz
        2nd Mark Haycock 6 fish for 17lb 2oz
        3rd Graham Cooper 6 fish for 15lb 1oz
        4th Peter Hartley 5 fish for 14lb 11oz

The last day for boat fishing (for both trout and pike anglers) is Sunday 16 December. The trout season continues for bank anglers until 31 December.
        Lodge opening times
December 9am to 2pm (closed Mondays and Tuesdays).

Please note the Brown trout season has ended – any Browns caught must be returned safely to the water. Since 1 November the western end of the reservoir has been out of bounds for all fishing (bank and boat). Please see wardens or shop staff if you are unsure of the restrictions.

Best Rainbow 6lb 10oz taken by Brian Knights of Offord.
