The cool northerly and easterly winds this week have kept the fish down in the water except when the sun finally shone through and produced hatches of damsels,buzzers ,a few small sedges and caddis.Anglers have caught on numerous patterns ie.damsel nymphs,PTN[UV],GRHE and Diawl Bachs being the most prominently successful.The highlight of the week has ben achieved by experienced fly fishermen Bill Callaway from Harold and Tony Kitchener from Gt.Addington.Bill netted a rainbow from the boat exceeding 10lbs and which was returned safely together with mainly the remainder of his haul of 9 fish.Extremely excited Tony probably caught the largest brown trout ever seen at Ringstead with a splendid specimen fish well in excess of 12lbs caught on a small black buzzer[red cheeks] in a boat off the Addington Road bank.Again this fish with his haul of 7 rainbows and a further brown were safely returned to the water to fight another day.
All anglers commenting on the superb quality and hard fighting fish being caught which have been averaging 21/2lb to 3lb in catches from bank and boat respectively.Average catch rate on the good days has still been 4-5 fish per angler
Most successful tactics have been floating lines with long leaders in 3-5feet with a slow retrieve.
Prospects this week should remain very good as favourable winds return from the west and it warms up.Weekly stocking continues with rainbows approaching up to 3lbs.
