Hi All
Week 22/7/13 to 28/7/13
Best Fish of the Week-Nigel Cheetham of Oundle Rainbow 4lb 0oz Goldhead Black Marabou Buzzer
Statistics for the Week; 30 anglers caught 148 rainbows with 99 returned to the water at an average of 4.9
Despite the warm conditions the concentration of fish in the deep water area of the lake has drawn most of the anglers visiting this week to this area. The latter part of the week saw the better catches with the majority of boat anglers finding the fish in a frenzied mood. The pick of the anglers were Mr Howkins and Mr Cannon from Olney who took 25 rainbows in their boat by lunchtiome on a variety of flies including damsels,GRHE and diawl bach.Season ticket holders Phil and Gene Robinson from Raunds on the next day went one better by taking 28 rainbows .
Relatively new to the sport angler Mark Birch from Little Staunton who has only been fly fishing for a year caught 20 rainbows from the boat by lunchtime and commented that he was getting takes nearlyevery cast in a one hour spell.Mark caught on damsel, hares ear[UV thorax] and diawl bach and on one occasion having two fish on at once.
Trout Fisherman magazine held a feature on the lake this week with Jeff Prest and trout fishing ace Rob Edmunds attending.
Jeff held the camera during the day whilst Rob fishing mainly washing line techniques with booby damsel, hares ear[UV thorax] and diawl bach caught more fish than he could remember but at least 30 rainbows and 1 brown.Look out for this article to be printed in future issues.
Finally credit must go to young bank angler Pav Knezedic from Corby who has only been fly fishing for 6 months and who caught 8 lovely rainbowsd in difficult bank conditions.Pav landed fish taken on damsel nymph,GRHE[UV thorax] and red ribbed diawl bach on a 15 feet leader in the deep water area.
Regretably on a personal note I would like to inform you all that this will be my last report as I am leaving the fishery with immediate effect.
This decision has not been taken lightly but I felt it necessary to leave in view of a breakdown of amicable communications with the owners and in the certain way a number of policies are being dealt with at the fishery particularly the regularity of the stocking of the lake throughout the season so far.
I do wish my own integrity to remain intact and therefore feel I have reached the right decision.
I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks to all those anglers locally and not so locally who have supported myself and the other bailiffs Kevin and David during my stay at Ringstead Grange over the last 2/3 years.
Also to all those friends I have made who have been so kind enough to provide me with very good advice during this time-“a very big thank you”.
I do look forward to seeing many of you again hopefully wherever I continue to fly fish and anyone wishing to contact me for advice in the future will be most welcome to do so.
A big thank you to fellow bailiffs Kevin Height and David Morton for their support and hard work.
In the meantime anyone wishing to contact the fishery to book a boat/information in the future should now ring 01933 622960 or whatever number is provided in the future.
Tight Lines and Best Wishes
Paul Mortimer [07788 426369]
