        absolutely barmy

i think fishery owners need to have a look at this

i know some have had as little as 7 fish in their keepnet and been penalized.

keepnets are 3m long not 3ft

Where on your average peg would you have room for 13 nets, absolutely ludicrous, a 50lb limit on a prolific fishery is also taking the p***, surely on fisheries like this owners could ask for 4mtr nets and up the weights to 80lb safely, just another nail in your average club anglers coffin 😡 😡 😡 Well done to Lee Kerry though a real top performance.

The fishery provide keepnets, so I fail to see how its a nail in anybodys coffin.

When you think about it, it’s quite simple.

            Their fishery, their rules.

If you don’t like it, don’t go.

while it is good that some fisheries supply nets and have weight limits.
given that most anglers own 3-maybe 4 nets of some type,carp/silverfish etc.with practical peg space, what would you feel was a sensible/practical weight limit, based around the pratical number of keepnets most anglers own or carry to a match.or would it be better to have weigh ins halfway through the matches.

                Chris,
….think you’ll find that ‘Leeds lad ‘Lee Kerry, originally hails from deepest Norwich in Norfolk.

A few of our own rural IOW sea angling lot know his dad, the former world distance caster and shore angling legend, Paul Kerry. So exceptional English International angling prowess obviously runs in the family… and Norwich.

Such easy pickings for Cormorants….why would they stay on the coast and work all day for food…when they can feed the family in two or three dives at these places ?…and everybody wonders why we have cormorant issues inland…the answers are staring you all in the face

Worst reply ever – the venue provides the opportunity for a club to book a brilliant venue and give its members the match of their life!!!
Please think for a split second before posting – this is 5 anglers (the best commercial anglers in the country) on a 30 peg pool fishing a spectacle of a match destined for the pages of a magazine!!!! its going to be a bit special and great for a write up
then think about a average club match with 20 anglers on it (and please don’t shoot me down on this one) of a club standard – 3-4 keepnets in the water gives these guys a target of 240lb – a weight they could only dream of most weeks of the year – but a weight they could realistically get close too.
then to finish if you’ve ever fished the venue you’ll see the fish are in a fantastic condition, fight like stink and a pleasure to catch – the rules are there for a reason and they work.

Is this the sensible future of match fishing? No, it’s the sensational future of the sport. Well done to Lee for having the single minded approach to carry on hauling such a weight of fish.

I’m not convinced that fishing for 5 or 6 hours on mega potential waters is the right amount of time when such high weights are on the cards over such a match time. These sort of super weights are going to become more common place until a peak is reached that no one wants to climb anymore. Maybe matches will have to alter the amount of time that is fished or bring in a culling match where only a limited number of fish will be retained for the final weigh in and these will be the fish the angler has considered their biggest, much like the Bass pro matches in the states.

Fish cost money, rules are set to protect the owners stock,if they want 50lb a net then we must obide and put 50lbs a net, unless of course you want to pay 80 quid a day, which would help to paying for fish losses and then fill your nets at will….if you were paying for the stocks, then you would understand a bit more, they dont appear from a fish tree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got to be honest cant see the pleasure in catching a weight like that . Its been mentioned on here before about bagging up there and how we use to struggle on the Avon and the Severn but where’s the Challenge in catching a weight that big a 3lb Carp a minute its in sane .Yes Lee is a top Angler but I am sure he got as much pleasure if not more Fishing at Evesham the weekend than he did using 13 nets .Yes I understand he was Fishing to win the Semi Final which he did but I think he even stated he wouldn’t like to that every week.

I’ve know him since he was about 14.

At one time we fished in the same team.

I’ve fished with his old man for about 10 years.

In fact, we were fishing together today on the tidal Yare.

I can tell you for a fact that although he lives in Leeds, he only moved there to do missionary work, sort of educate the locals… 😉

Yes I’ve done the miles walks for a few ounces done the winter Leagues for 1 fish done the Commercials for the 50lb 100lbs etc. and enjoyed them all and worked hard every match for what I’ve caught but as for having something I cant have I don’t think so For me I like a challenge and 4 foot of water with 3 foot of fish isn’t one so I guess its every one to there own !

Personally if i felt the need to catch 500lb of fish in 5hr…then id hire a trawler from Grimsby Docks…

I’ve only fished there 3 times, but as said before the fish are in excellent condition…

I actually think the fishery net limit is good as it is actually 50lbs a net but as long as you are below 60lbs it still counts, with the majority of scales going up to 60lbs (yes I know there are larger scales), that means that the fish are not out of the water for long (as you don’t need to weigh half whilst the others are still in the keepnet waiting for a 2nd weigh..

They also use large unhooking mats to lift your net onto (so no sharp stones for the fish to flip against)…

Yes there is a LOT of fish in the lake, but as said before the average angler cannot do those sort of weights…

They supply all nets (and landing nets)..

Oh and great performace by Lee and the other semi-finalists as no matter what to get those kind of weights you have to have every-thing right on the day…

My own take on this is that its a step too far for match fishing. Retaining all those fish in nets cannot be a healthy situation over the long term.
As far as pleasure fishing is concerned where no keepnets come into play I think its more acceptable so if match fishing is going to go this way I think some form of recorded weight system per fish needs to be evolved and thus keepnets made redundant. Fisho is pretty much as close as we get to this now with the half hour weighs but those fish are still retained for the match duration if I recall.
Fishing has come a long way in a short time, I recall the struggles for match weights of 1lb then 10lb back in the 70s, it took ages for me then to get to 100lb, now I am just short of 200lb but have pleasure weights well over 400lb this year. The carp are so big now and the tackle companies have evoloved gear for us to get them out on a top kit.
The basic concept of keeping fish in keepnets has not changed for 30 years although I accept materials and net sizes has move on, I think it needs to move on again.
That said winters not far off and our thoughts will once more turn to just getting bites!!
